Chapter 7 - The Final Confrontation

"She Stole the Empire with a Single Pen Stroke"One month later.

The boardroom on the 42nd floor of Whitmore Holdings was packed to absolute capacity. International journalists, major shareholders, and board members sat around the massive oak table, whispers echoing through the space.

The doors opened.

I walked in.

I wasn't wearing the cheap maternity dress or worn black flats anymore. I wore a tailored crimson silk suit, my blonde hair pulled into a sleek, powerful ponytail. Beside me walked Adrian, wearing a dark navy suit, carrying our baby boy in a front strap carrier.

The room fell completely silent.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Adrian announced, standing at the head of the table. "For thirty years, Whitmore Holdings has operated under a lie. Today, we rectify that."

He stepped aside and pulled out the chair at the head of the table for me.

I sat down, looking across the long row of powerful men and women who had once looked down on me.

"Effective immediately," I said, my voice echoing clearly across the room, "all assets tied to the Carter BioTech patents are being transferred into a global public trust aimed at providing free medical care for children worldwide."

Gasps erupted across the room.

"You can't do that!" one senior board member shouted, standing up. "That will destroy our stock value by forty percent!"

"Then sell your stock," I replied without blinking. "Because I hold the controlling interest, and my decision is final."

Adrian leaned down, placing his hand over mine on the mahogany table, a proud smile breaking across his handsome face.

For the first time in eight months, the dark clouds hanging over our lives seemed to part completely.

Then, my phone buzzed on the table.

An unknown number had sent a single text message with a photo attached.

I clicked the image.

My heart dropped into an icy abyss.

The photo was a live security camera feed from inside the nursery of our upstate estate. Sitting in a chair right beside our baby's crib was Victoria Whitmore, holding a small silver flask.

“Did you really think I was done, Lena? Sign the shares over to me in five minutes, or the baby drinks.”
