🔥 CHAPTER 6 — The Safe That Changed Everything

The next morning Ethan returned home alone to collect clothes for Olivia.
The front door was unlocked.
He frowned.
He always locked it.
Inside...
Drawers had been pulled open.
Closets stood empty.
Cabinets had been searched.
Nothing valuable appeared missing.
Except one thing.
The small fireproof safe in his home office.
His stomach tightened.
He rushed upstairs.
The safe door hung wide open.
Inside should have been:
Their passports.
Their wills.
Their trust documents.
Their insurance policies.
And the original deed proving Olivia owned the house.
Everything was gone.
Ethan immediately checked the security cameras.
The footage loaded.
10:48 p.m.
A familiar figure entered through the front door.
Diane.
She calmly walked through the house as if she still owned it.
She went directly upstairs.
She opened the safe.
She removed a folder.
Then looked directly into the security camera.
And smiled.
Before leaving.
Ethan's blood ran cold.
She knew exactly where the cameras were.
She wanted him to see it.
Seconds later his phone rang.
Unknown number.
He answered.
Diane's voice came through calmly.
"If you want those papers back..."
"You'll let your sisters move back into the house."
Ethan remained silent.
She continued.
"Otherwise, proving that house belongs to Olivia might become... difficult."
For a long moment, Ethan said nothing.
Then he smiled.
Not because he was afraid.
Because Diane had just made the biggest mistake of her life.
"You should have taken the copies," he said quietly.
"What?"
"The originals have been stored in our attorney's office for months."
Silence.
"The ones you stole..."
"They're worthless."
For the first time in Ethan's life...
He heard his mother panic.
And just before she hung up, he heard police sirens growing louder in the background.
Because while she was making threats...
The security company had already reported the break-in.

This family war...
Had just become a criminal investigation.
