Chapter 3 - The Paper Trail of BetrayalThe paramedics carefully loaded Emily and Sophie onto the gurney to transport them to Charlotte Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment. Jacob insisted on riding with them, but before he stepped out into the freezing night, Agent Vance pulled him aside in the hallway.

"Captain, we found the hidden offshore accounts," Vance said in a low voice. "It's worse than we thought. Your father wasn't just stealing your military pay to cover his personal debts. He was using your military security clearance and your name to authorize illegal supply shipments through his logistics company."

Jacob’s jaw clenched. "What kind of shipments?"

"Classified military hardware. Siphoned from supply lines in the Middle East," Vance revealed grimly. "He framed your wife, claiming she stole 'company documents,' because she accidentally uncovered the invoices showing shipments sent to unauthorized foreign buyers."

A cold realization washed over Jacob. The reason Emily had been locked out wasn't just spite or cruelty—it was an attempt to silence her permanently. Leaving her to freeze in the blizzard wasn't an outburst of anger; it was premeditated murder disguised as an accident.

Jacob looked at his father, who was now being forced into the back of a police cruiser in handcuffs.

"We have enough to hold him without bail," Vance assured him. "Get your family to safety. We’ll handle the rest."
