Chapter 5 - The Unthinkable TruthVictoria closed the door behind her and pulled up a chair. Her expression was solemn.

"We just finished executing a search warrant on Richard Miller’s private safe at his office," Victoria began. "We found sealed adoption papers and a codicil to a late 1990s estate."

Jacob frowned. "Adoption papers?"

"Jacob... Richard and Rebecca are not your biological parents," Victoria stated directly.

The room fell deathly silent.

"What?" Jacob stammered.

"Your biological mother was Clara Montgomery," Victoria explained, pulling out a yellowed birth certificate. "She was the true founder and majority shareholder of Montgomery Logistics—the company Richard rebranded as Miller Global Logistics after her death in 2004."

Jacob felt as though the floor had dropped beneath him. "Clara Montgomery... I remember her. She was my 'Aunt Clara.' She died in a car accident when I was six."

"It was no accident," Victoria said grimly. "Clara left 100% of her company and her fortune in a blind trust for you, to be unlocked on your 25th birthday or upon your return from active combat service. Richard and Rebecca were appointed your legal guardians, but they were legally barred from touching the principal fund."

"So they raised me on stolen money," Jacob realized, his voice trembling with a mixture of shock and fury.

"They didn't just steal it," Victoria added. "When you turned 25 last year while deployed, the trust automatically triggered an audit. Richard knew he was about to be exposed for embezzling tens of millions. The only way he could keep control of the company was if you died in action—or if he could declare you mentally incompetent due to PTSD upon your return."
