CHAPTER 6 — The Lie That Started Everything

The courtroom was packed.

Reporters filled the back rows.

Richard arrived in an expensive black suit, holding Emma’s hand too tightly.

Eleanor wore pearls and a grieving mother’s expression.

Arthur entered last.

This time, he wore a clean gray suit.

But he still carried the same worn canvas bag.

Richard smirked.

The judge looked over the documents.

“Mr. Whitmore, your family claims you are mentally unfit to manage your estate.”

Arthur nodded calmly.

“I expected that.”

Richard stood.

“My father abandoned us for years, then returned dressed as a beggar to emotionally manipulate a child.”

He pointed at Emma.

“My daughter.”

Arthur slowly opened the canvas bag.

“No, Richard.”

“She is not.”

The courtroom froze.

Richard’s face twisted.

“What did you say?”

Arthur handed the judge a DNA report.

Then he looked at Emma with pain in his eyes.

“Emma is not your daughter.”

Eleanor gasped.

Richard stumbled back.

Arthur continued.

“Eight years ago, your wife gave birth to a baby girl.”

“But that child died the same night.”

A scream rose from the courtroom.

Arthur turned toward Eleanor.

“And my wife secretly arranged for another newborn to be brought into this family.”

Emma began trembling.

Arthur’s voice broke.

“She was not stolen.”

“She was rescued.”

“From the same hospital where Eleanor had abandoned her own maid’s granddaughter.”

Everyone turned to Eleanor.

Her perfect mask finally cracked.

Arthur whispered the final sentence.

“The child you all treated like a spare heir…”

“Was the only true soul among you.”

And in the back of the courtroom...

An old woman stood up crying.

She looked at Emma and said:

May you like

“My baby…”

“I finally found you.”
