Chapter 6 - The Vault of Secrets

Headline/Title: "She threw the tracker into a moving truck... then discovered the ultimate trap."

"Give it to me," Daniel said coldly.

He took the GPS tracker, rolled down the window, and slammed it right into the open bed of a passing commercial garbage truck headed in the opposite direction.

"That should buy us twenty minutes," Daniel muttered, watching the black SUVs follow the garbage truck down the interstate ramp.

My father pulled the car into a dark, abandoned warehouse district near the Scioto River. He drove into a dilapidated brick building marked Holloway Logistics - Closed 1998, pulling down a rusty metal garage door behind us.

We sat in the dark car for a moment, listening to the heavy silence and the rhythmic sound of Lucas’s soft breathing.

"We're safe here for now," my father said, turning off the engine.

We got out of the car. The inside of the warehouse was filled with old wooden crates, covered vintage cars, and dusty filing cabinets. My father walked over to a heavy steel door in the back wall, punched a six-digit code into an ancient mechanical lock, and pulled it open.

Inside was a brightly lit, modern security room filled with computer servers, monitors, and stacks of legal binders.

"What is this place?" I asked in disbelief.

"This is where I’ve spent the last ten years," my father said, turning on the monitors. "When your mother framed me and stole my life, I didn't run away to hide, Emily. I went underground to gather evidence. I knew one day her greed would catch up to her. I just never imagined she would target my grandson."

Daniel walked over to one of the monitors displaying financial records. "Look at this... these are bank transfers from Callahan's shell corporations."

"Look closer at the dates, Daniel," my father urged.

Daniel zoomed in. His eyes widened. "Wait... these transfers started five years ago. Before I even met Emily!"

"What?" I stepped closer, holding Lucas. "What do you mean?"

"Margaret didn't start framing Daniel two months ago," my father revealed, looking at me with immense sympathy. "Emily... Margaret arranged for you to meet Daniel."

The room seemed to spin. "What are you saying?"

"Daniel’s father, Arthur Vance, wasn't just a honest businessman," my father explained. "Before he passed away, Arthur discovered that Callahan and Margaret were laundering money through local development projects. Arthur was going to go to the whistleblower authorities. Before he could, he died in that mysterious car crash six years ago."

Daniel gasped, dropping into a chair. "My father’s crash... it wasn't an equipment failure?"

"No," my father said quietly. "It was sabotage. And Margaret knew that Arthur had hidden the hard evidence inside a physical safe deposit box registered under his son’s name—your name, Daniel. Margaret orchestrated your meeting with Emily so she could get close to you, wait until you had a child, and force you into the Holloway legal structure so she could claim authority over your father's estate!"

I felt physically sick. My entire life—my marriage, my happiness, my baby—had been calculated, manipulated, and engineered by my own mother for money and self-preservation.

"She never loved me," I whispered, tears spilling onto Lucas’s blanket. "I wasn't her daughter. I was just a long-term investment."

"Emily..." Daniel took my hand, his eyes burning with fury. "We are going to burn her empire to the ground."

Suddenly, the security monitors flickered.

The live camera feed from the front garage door showed a fleet of police cars pulling up outside—led by a high-ranking Police Chief.

And stepping out of the front passenger seat of the lead cruiser, holding a copy of a search warrant with a smug, victorious smile on her face... was Margaret.
