Chapter 4 - The Bitter Harvest of Pride

Viral Hook: A father’s love isn’t blind—it’s a blinding light that exposes the truth.Valeria gasped, turning to Mauricio in utter horror. "What do you mean, my personal funds? Mauricio, you told me the contracts I signed were just standard pre-nuptial asset pooling!"

Mauricio laughed, a harsh, mocking sound that made Mateo flinch. "You were so eager to prove to your father that you could be a high-flying city businesswoman that you didn't even read the fine print, Valeria. You signed over the power of attorney for your entire inheritance from your mother. If I walk out of here and liquidate the assets, you are left with absolutely nothing. You’ll be just as poor as Rosa."

Valeria collapsed into a chair, burying her face in her hands, sobbing uncontrollably. The very ambition that had driven a wedge between her and her father had been used as the perfect weapon to destroy her.

Don Alejandro looked at his daughter. For the past two years, her arrogance had broken his heart. She had looked down on his simple ranching life, calling him old-fashioned and stubborn. Yet, seeing her broken and conned by a predator awoke the fierce protector within him.

"You underestimated two things, Mauricio," Don Alejandro said calmly, walking back to his desk. He picked up a landline phone and dialed a three-digit number. "First, you underestimated a father's willingness to let his daughter learn a hard lesson. And second, you underestimated who actually owns the land Apex Luxury Group has been illegally borrowing against."

Mauricio’s eyes narrowed. "What are you talking about?"

"The banks in Guadalajara didn't grant you those loans based on your fake identity," Alejandro said, a cold smile appearing on his weathered face. "They granted them because the guarantor of the land you used as collateral was me. I bought out your company’s primary debt three months ago through an anonymous trust. I wanted to see exactly how far down the rabbit hole you and my daughter were going."

Into the phone, Alejandro spoke firmly: "Commander Silva? You can bring the cars up to the main house now. The target is here."

Mauricio’s face drained of what little color it had left. The distant, unmistakable wail of police sirens began to echo through the quiet Jalisco valley, growing louder and louder by the second.
