Chapter 3 - THE FAMILY SINS

Headline: "A Forty-Year-Old Secret Exposed: The Real Reason My Uncle Destroys Everything I Love!"Inside the miserable tin shack, the heat was suffocating. Valeria, despite her designer clothes, sat on a dusty wooden crate next to Doña Carmen, gently wiping the sweat from the old woman’s forehead with a damp cloth.
Emiliano paced the dirt floor, his mind racing.
"Dad," Emiliano said, kneeling in front of Don Jacinto. "Why did Rogelio do this? I know he is greedy, but this... this is pure hatred. He didn't just take the ranch. He wanted to destroy your dignity. He wanted you to die in this ravine. Why?"
Don Jacinto stared at his calloused, trembling hands. A heavy silence filled the shack, broken only by the whistling of the wind through the cracks in the sheet metal.
"It goes back... forty years ago, son," Don Jacinto began, his voice cracking with age and regret. "Before you were born. This ranch... it didn't belong to our father. It belonged to a wealthy patron who had no heirs. Rogelio and I both worked for him. But Rogelio... Rogelio was lazy, and he was caught stealing. The patron was going to send him to prison."
Don Jacinto took a deep breath, a tear slipping down his weathered cheek.
"I begged the patron for mercy. I promised I would work double shifts to pay back what Rogelio stole, if only he wouldn't lock my brother up. The patron agreed, but on one condition: Rogelio was banished from the land, and the ranch was willed to me. Rogelio never saw it as an act of mercy. He saw it as a betrayal. He believed I poisoned the patron’s mind against him to steal his half of the inheritance."
"So he waited," Emiliano whispered, the pieces of the puzzle finally falling into place.
"He waited forty years," Doña Carmen sobbed. "He waited until we were old, weak, and desperate. When I had my heart attack, he knew it was his moment. He didn't just want the money, Emiliano. He wanted to see us beg."
Suddenly, Valeria’s phone buzzed. She stepped outside to answer it. When she returned, her face was deadly serious.
"Emiliano, my father’s team ran a background check on Rogelio’s current operations," she said, lowering her voice so the old couple wouldn't hear. "He isn't just running a farm. He’s deeply in debt to some very dangerous, unregulated lenders in Guadalajara. He’s been using your family’s ranch as collateral for a massive illegal distribution operation."
Emiliano’s eyes narrowed. "What kind of distribution?"
"He’s smuggling black-market chemicals through the agricultural trucks," Valeria explained, showing him a tablet with financial logs. "And there’s more. That 'tax fraud' document he’s using to blackmail your father? It’s a dummy document. If we can prove Rogelio’s current operations are illegal, the federal government will seize the entire ranch under asset forfeiture. But..."
"But what?" Emiliano asked.
"But if the government seizes it, your parents lose it forever anyway," Valeria said grimly. "We need to get the deed back before the authorities find out what he’s doing. And we only have three days before Rogelio's next major shipment arrives."
Emiliano looked at his parents, then down at his own hands. The time for crying was over.

"He wants to play dirty?" Emiliano said, a cold, ruthless smile appearing on his face for the first time. "Let’s show my uncle how they do business in Monterrey."
The Chapter 3 Hook: But as Emiliano began planning his counterattack, a shadow appeared at the door of the shack—a local spy sent by Rogelio, holding a recording device that had captured every single word of their plan.
