Chapter 6 - THE RETRIBUTION
Headline: "The Military Surrounded the Town! Watch the Moment the Corrupt Police Chief Realized He Was Done!"The backup generators of the police station kicked in, casting a dim, flickering red light over the hallway.
"What the hell is going on?" Chief Mendez yelled, drawing his service weapon and pointing it toward the ceiling. "Who cut the power?"
Before anyone could answer, the front doors of the station were blown off their hinges with a flashbang grenade.
The room filled with white smoke and the heavy, synchronized thud of tactical boots. Within seconds, a dozen heavily armed federal agents in dark tactical gear, bearing the insignia of the Fiscalía General de la República (the federal prosecutor’s office), flooded the room.
"Federal agents! Drop your weapons! Hands on your heads!" a voice boomed through a megaphone.
Chief Mendez’s gun clattered to the floor instantly. He fell to his knees, his face turning pale. Rogelio tried to slip out through a back exit, but two federal agents slammed him against the wall, forcing his arms behind his back and clicking heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists.
Through the smoke, a figure walked calmly into the station.
It was Valeria.
She was completely unharmed. Her hair was perfect, and her hands were free. Behind her walked a tall, imposing man in a tailored dark suit—General Luis Montes, Valeria’s father and a highly decorated commander in the Mexican special forces.
"Valeria!" Emiliano called out, a massive wave of relief washing over him.
A federal agent quickly unlocked Emiliano’s cell. Emiliano rushed out, pulling Valeria into a fierce embrace.
"How... how did you do this?" Emiliano asked, still stunned.
Valeria smiled, kissing his cheek. "You didn't think I would actually let those cheap thugs capture me, did you? The video Rogelio showed you was staged. My father’s private security team had already neutralized Rogelio's men at the shack before they could even lay a hand on your parents. We used their own phones to broadcast a pre-recorded loop to Rogelio’s phone to keep him distracted."
General Montes walked over, looking down at Rogelio with utter contempt.
"Rogelio Salgado," the General said, his voice like iron. "For the past six months, federal intelligence has been tracking the illegal chemical distribution ring operating out of your ranch. We only needed the final piece of evidence—the original distribution ledger—to connect you directly to the cartel headers in Guadalajara."
The General held up the black ledger that Chief Mendez had tried to burn.
"And thanks to your nephew’s bravery, we now have it. Along with a list of every corrupt local official who helped you."
Rogelio looked at Emiliano, his eyes filled with a desperate, pathetic terror. "Emiliano... please... we are family! We share the same blood! Talk to them! Tell them it was all a mistake! I’ll give the ranch back! I’ll give everything back!"
Emiliano walked up to his uncle. He looked at the man who had stolen his parents' dignity, who had let them starve, who had tried to blackmail them into an early grave.
