Chapter 4 - THE MOUSETRAP

Headline: "He Thought He Had Us Cornered—But My Millionaire Fiancée Just Bought His Entire Life!""Boss, they know about the Guadalajara shipments," the voice muttered through the phone speaker.
Rogelio sat in his luxurious office inside the renovated ranch, his face twisting into a mask of pure rage. He listened to the audio recording his spy had just sent him. He slammed his glass of whiskey against the mahogany desk, shattering it into pieces.
"That little bastard," Rogelio growled. "He thinks his city girlfriend can save him? Increase the security at the gates. If Emiliano or any of his people step foot near my trucks, bury them in the agave fields."
Meanwhile, back in the village, Emiliano was not preparing for a physical fight. He was preparing a financial execution.
"We can't fight him with force," Emiliano told Valeria and his parents. "He has the local police in his pocket. If we try to expose him to the local authorities, the evidence will disappear, and my father will end up in a cell. We have to bypass the local system entirely."
"How?" Don Jacinto asked, looking terrified. "He has the papers, son. He has my signature."
"A signature obtained under duress and fraud is legally void, Dad," Valeria explained gently. "But to prove it, we need the original deed and the fake confession. He keeps them in a biometric safe inside his master bedroom at the ranch. I’ve already hired a specialist team from Mexico City to bypass his security cameras, but we need him out of the house."
"I’ll draw him out," Emiliano said.
The next morning, a massive, formal invitation was delivered to Rogelio’s gate. It was printed on heavy, gold-leaf paper, bearing the seal of the Montes Group—one of the largest real estate conglomerates in Mexico, owned by Valeria’s family.
The letter offered Rogelio an immediate, cash-in-hand buyout of the Salgado Ranch for five million dollars—triple its actual market value—under the guise of building a luxury eco-resort. The meeting was set for that very evening at a high-end restaurant in the nearby city of Morelia, two hours away.
Rogelio read the letter, his eyes wide with greed. Five million dollars. It would solve all his debts to the Guadalajara lenders and leave him a wealthy man for the rest of his life.
"He wants to buy me out to save his parents’ pride," Rogelio laughed to his henchman. "The boy is desperate. Let’s go to Morelia. We’ll sign the intent to sell, take their deposit, and then... I’ll still find a way to ruin them."
At 6:00 PM, Rogelio’s heavy convoy pulled out of the ranch gates, heading toward Morelia.
The moment the taillights disappeared down the dirt road, two figures in dark clothing slipped over the rear wall of the property.
It was Emiliano and a professional security specialist.
They bypassed the cameras using a signal jammer provided by Valeria's team. Within minutes, they were inside the master bedroom. The specialist went to work on the wall safe hidden behind a painting of the Virgin Mary.
"Hurry," Emiliano whispered, watching the security feeds on his phone.
"Almost there... the encryption is heavy," the specialist muttered, sweat dripping from his forehead.
Click.
The heavy steel door of the safe swung open. Emiliano reached inside, his heart pounding. He grabbed the folder containing the original land deeds, the fake tax confession, and...
Something else.
A black ledger.
Emiliano opened the ledger. His eyes widened as he saw lists of names, dates, and bank account numbers. It wasn't just a record of Rogelio's debts. It was a list of every corrupt local official he had bribed over the last five years—including the mayor and the local police chief.
Suddenly, the lights in the room flashed red.
A loud siren began to wail across the estate.
On Emiliano’s phone, the security feed showed three patrol cars from the local police force entering the gates, their sirens screaming.

Rogelio hadn't gone to Morelia. He had set a trap of his own.
