CHAPTER 8 – The Father Who Was Never Dead

The world seemed to stop.
Caleb couldn't breathe.
The man standing before him looked older...
His hair had turned gray...
A scar ran across the left side of his face...
But those blue eyes...
They were exactly the same as the ones in every childhood photograph.
Caleb's voice cracked.
"...Dad?"
The stranger smiled sadly.
"I've waited thirty years to hear you say that."
Caleb staggered backward.
"No..."
"My father died."
"I buried him."
"I visited his grave every year."
The man slowly shook his head.
"You buried an empty coffin."
Edward closed his eyes.
"So... it was true."
Victoria looked away, unable to hide her tears.
Caleb's hands trembled with rage.
"You let me grow up believing you were dead?"
The man lowered his head.
"I didn't have a choice."
"If I had stayed..."
"They would have killed you."
He pointed toward the convoy with the silver wolf emblem.
"They don't forgive betrayal."
Caleb's voice echoed across the field.
"WHO ARE THEY?"
The man's expression turned cold.
"A private organization."
"They hide behind billion-dollar corporations."
"They buy judges."
"They own politicians."
"They erase witnesses."
"And thirty years ago..."
"They wanted something hidden beneath the original clubhouse."
Edward stepped forward.
"The vault."
The man nodded.
"Your grandfather and the founders discovered proof that several powerful families had built their fortunes through corruption, extortion, and contract killings."
"They locked every document inside that vault."
"And swore it would never fall into the wrong hands."
Victoria whispered,
"We thought destroying the evidence would protect everyone."
"But your father refused."
The man looked directly at Caleb.
"Because evil doesn't disappear when you hide the truth."
"It grows."
Suddenly...
The leader of the Silver Wolf convoy began clapping slowly.
"Beautiful reunion."
His voice echoed through the rain.
"Now hand me the key."
Caleb instinctively grabbed the founder's ring in his pocket.
"I don't have any key."
The stranger smiled.
"Oh..."
"You've been carrying it your entire life."
Everyone froze.
Edward frowned.
"What are you talking about?"
The stranger pointed to the founder's ring.
"That isn't just a ring."
"It is the key."
Hidden inside the band was a tiny mechanical locking pin—the only device capable of opening the underground vault.
The Silver Wolf leader raised his hand.
More than a hundred armed mercenaries aimed their rifles.
"Last chance."
"Give me the ring..."
"Or everyone you love dies tonight."
Caleb looked down at the ring...
Then at the man claiming to be his father.
For the first time in thirty years...
He noticed the same engraved scar on the man's wrist that appeared in his mother's old wedding photograph.
The man was telling the truth.
But before Caleb could answer...
A sniper's bullet ripped through the silence.
BANG!
The man calling himself Caleb's father jerked backward as blood spread across his shirt.
He collapsed into Caleb's arms...
And with his final breath...
He whispered six words that changed everything.
"Don't... trust... Edward... he... betrayed... us..."
Every eye slowly turned toward Edward.
Even Edward looked shocked.

Then...
He quietly smiled.
