Chapter 6 - The Ultimate Truth

Maya pressed her thumb onto the command console, her voice steady and resonant. "Authorization Code: Aurora-001. Activate the Archangel protocol."

The console lit up in a blinding gold light. Across all the monitors, the security feeds shifted. The automated defense turrets installed in the garrison’s ceilings—turrets that had been offline for twenty-four years—suddenly whirred to life, their barrels glowing red.

"What is happening?!" Commander Zero's voice lost its calm demeanor over the intercom, replaced by sudden panic as the sound of heavy, automated gunfire shredded his mercenary squads in the halls.

"You killed my father for his power," Maya spoke into the microphone, her voice echoing through the entire facility. "But you forgot that his power wasn't in a vault. It was in his blood."

Within ninety seconds, the attack was over. The automated defense grid had completely neutralized the mercenary threat with mechanical precision.

The blast doors of the command center opened. Maya, flanked by Colonel Vance and a squad of heavily armed Apex soldiers, walked down the corridor. The air was thick with smoke.

In the main lobby, wounded and disarmed, sat Commander Zero. His mask had been ripped off, revealing a scarred, middle-aged man. Next to him, guarded by soldiers, were Victoria and Julian.

Julian ran toward Maya, falling at her feet, trying to grab the hem of her jeans. "Maya! You saved me! Oh God, I knew you would! We can go home now, right? We can rebuild everything!"

Maya looked down at him with pure disgust. She didn't say a word. She simply waved her hand, and a soldier dragged Julian back, throwing him to the floor next to his mother.

Victoria looked up at Maya, her eyes completely broken, the aristocratic arrogance stripped away forever. "What... what are you going to do to us?"

Maya walked past them, stopping right in front of the captured mercenary commander, Zero. She looked down at him, then turned her gaze back to Victoria.

"You thought I was a worthless orphan," Maya said, her voice echoing off the concrete walls. "You thought you could abuse me, slap me, and discard me because I had no past. But the truth is, Victoria... my past is the only reason your family ever had a future. And now, that future is officially canceled."

Colonel Vance stepped forward. "Miss Sterling, the assets of the Sterling-Vaughn corporation have been completely seized. The funds will be redirected to the national orphanages and veterans' funds, as your father originally intended in his will. Victoria and Julian will be tried for treason, corporate fraud, and complicity in domestic terrorism. They will never see the light of day again."

Victoria let out a broken, pathetic sob, burying her face in her hands. Julian began to scream and beg, but the guards mercilessly dragged them away, their voices fading down the long, dark corridor into utter obscurity.

Maya turned to look out the reinforced glass window of the garrison. The sun was just beginning to rise over the city, casting a brilliant gold light across the horizon.

Colonel Vance stood at attention, saluting her deeply. "Where to now, Commander Aurora?"

Maya looked down at her baby girl, Lily, who was now sleeping peacefully in a bassinet carried by a female officer. Maya smiled—a real, genuine smile for the first time in years. She reached into her pocket and pulled out the tarnished silver pendant, which was now gleaming, completely wiped clean of its decades of dirt.

"Let's go home, Colonel," Maya said softly, her voice filled with an unshakeable power. "We have a legacy to rebuild."
