Chapter 3 - The Altar of Deceit and The Uninvited Guest

The atmosphere at El Palacete de las Flores was suffocatingly opulent. Hundreds of guests, dressed in the height of resort couture, mingled on the marble terraces. White orchids hung from silver arches, and a live string quartet played soft classical melodies that drifted over the crashing waves below.

At the front of the altar stood Diego Villaseñor. He looked striking in a custom-tailored midnight-blue tuxedo, his hair perfectly coiffed. To anyone watching, he was the picture of success—a brilliant young lawyer marrying the woman of his dreams. But beneath the polished exterior, his hands were trembling slightly.

Every few minutes, Diego checked his phone beneath his silk handkerchief. The wire transfer from the fraudulent sale of his mother’s condominium was supposed to have cleared his offshore account hours ago. The wedding planner, the caterers, and the venue owner were all demanding their final payments, which had already skyrocketed past three million pesos. Vanessa had insisted on last-minute upgrades, including a champagne fountain and a drone light show. Diego had assured everyone the funds were processing. He knew the money from the unsuspecting buyer—a shell company controlled by a foreign investor—was locked in a standard twenty-four-hour verification hold. He just needed to get through the ceremony, sign the marriage certificate, and the money would be legally untraceable.

"Relax, mi amor," Vanessa whispered as she joined him at the altar, looking stunning yet icy in a custom lace gown with a dramatic ten-foot train. Her phone was being held by her personal assistant just off-camera, livestreaming the event to her two million followers. "Everything is perfect. Today, we take our rightful place at the top of society. No more dealing with your mother’s outdated provincial ideas."

Diego forced a smile, kissing her gloved hand. "You're right. The past is dead. Today is about us."

The priest stepped forward, raising his hands to silence the crowd. The ceremony began. As the traditional vows were read, Diego felt a surge of arrogant triumph. He had done it. He had taken everything from the woman who had controlled him with her money his entire life. He had left her with nothing, and there was absolutely nothing she could do about it. By the time she figured out the legal technicalities of the power of attorney, he and Vanessa would be on a first-class flight to Dubai, far out of reach of local jurisdictions.

"If anyone here knows of any reason why this holy union should not take place," the priest chanted, his voice echoing through the state-of-the-art sound system, "let them speak now, or forever hold their peace."

A heavy, deliberate silence fell over the gardens. Diego let out a soft breath of relief.

Clang.

The sound was sudden, violent, and echoing. The massive, hand-forged wrought-iron gates at the entrance of the estate had just been slammed open so hard they rebounded against the stone walls.

The string quartet stopped mid-note. The guests gasped, turning their heads in unison toward the long, white-carpeted aisle.

Walking down the aisle was not a broken, defeated old woman.

It was Teresa Villaseñor.

She moved with the slow, terrifying grace of a matriarch walking onto a battlefield. Her crimson silk gown caught the bright afternoon sun, making her look like a flame cutting through a sea of white and pastel dresses. Her silver hair was styled perfectly, and around her neck hung a flawless diamond necklace—the very one Vanessa had eyed with greed during her first visit.

Behind her walked Judge Alejandro Vargas, flanked by four men in dark, tactical suits bearing the official gold insignia of the Fiscalía General de la República—the Federal Prosecutor’s Office.

"What is the meaning of this?!" Vanessa shrieked, her perfectly manicured face contorting into an expression of pure rage as she saw her livestream comments suddenly exploding with confusion. "Diego! Get your mother out of here! She’s ruining my wedding!"

Diego’s face went completely bloodless. The arrogant smile vanished, replaced by a cold, primal terror. "Mom? What... what are you doing here? You weren't invited. Security! Remove this woman!"

The venue security guards stepped forward, but before they could reach Teresa, the federal agents stepped in front of her, flashing their high-level federal badges.

"Federal authorities," the lead agent announced, his voice booming over the whispers of the elite crowd. "Nobody moves. Diego Villaseñor, you are under official investigation for federal financial fraud, identity theft, and corporate embezzlement."

Teresa stopped at the base of the altar. She looked up at her son, her eyes devoid of any maternal warmth.

"Hello, Diego," Teresa said softly, her voice carrying a chilling clarity that resonated through the silent garden. "Did you really think I wouldn't bring a gift to my only son’s wedding?"

HOOK FOR THE NEXT CHAPTER: As Vanessa frantically tries to save her livestream, Judge Vargas steps forward to reveal the devastating truth: the luxury estate they are standing on was rented using stolen funds that have already been frozen, and the "buyers" of Teresa’s condo are actually undercover federal agents working a sting operation.
