CHAPTER 5 — THE DINNER WHERE BLOOD TURNED COLD

That night, Emily called a family meeting at the Whitmore mansion.
Michael arrived with two lawyers.
Daniel came alone.
Their aunt Patricia came wearing black pearls and a smile sharp enough to cut glass.
Cousins, spouses, board members, and relatives who had ignored Richard for years suddenly filled the dining room.
Everyone wanted answers.
Everyone wanted money.
Michael slammed his folder onto the table.
“This is over, Emily. You’re not capable of leading anything.”
Patricia nodded.
“Your father was sick. He was confused. We all know it.”
Emily sat silently at the head of the table.
Then she placed Richard’s sealed folder in front of them.
The room went quiet.
Michael’s face changed.
“Where did you get that?”
Emily finally looked at him.
“From someone Dad trusted.”
Thomas stepped out of the shadows.
Several relatives gasped.
Patricia whispered,
“You’re dead.”
Thomas smiled coldly.
“Many people found that useful.”
Then Emily opened the folder.
Inside was not one will.
There were three.
A legal will.
A family letter.
And a list of names.
Emily read the first line aloud.
“To any child, relative, or executive who attempted to steal, forge, threaten, bribe, or manipulate after my death…”
Michael stood up.
“Stop reading.”
Emily continued.
“…you have already removed yourself from my estate.”
Daniel looked around the room.
Nearly half the relatives went pale.
Then Thomas activated the projector.
Security footage appeared.
Michael bribing the attorney.
Patricia meeting with reporters.
A cousin transferring company files.
A board member deleting records.
One by one, every betrayal appeared on screen.
The family began shouting.
But Emily only whispered,
“Dad knew.”
Michael’s hands trembled.
“You don’t understand. He was never going to give me what I deserved.”
Emily stood.
“No, Michael.”
“He gave you something better.”
“He gave you a chance to stay his son.”
The room fell silent.
Then the final video played.
Richard appeared on screen, weaker than before.
“If Michael chooses greed, tell him the truth.”
Michael’s face drained.
Richard looked into the camera.
“Son… I knew you were not my blood.”
A glass fell and shattered.
Michael could not move.
May you like
“But I chose you anyway.”
“And you chose the money.”
