Chapter 3 - The Web of DebtThe room plunged into a suffocating silence.

Ofelia looked back and forth between Renata and Prado, her confident smirk beginning to waver. "Héctor... what is she talking about? How does she know your full name?"

Prado didn't answer her. His eyes were locked on Renata, calculating, dangerous. "Who the hell are you?"

"I told Mauricio last night," Renata said, her voice ringing clear through the apartment. "Everyone thinks I'm just a simple fitness instructor at the sports center. But before I moved back to Guadalajara, I was a senior financial risk auditor and combat instructor for the Federal Protective Service. I spent three years tracking shell companies used to drain residential properties."

Mauricio let out a weak gasp and backed up against the wall. "What...?"

Renata turned her attention to Ofelia. "You were so eager to check my income, Ofelia. You saw my monthly paychecks from the sports center and thought I was an easy target. But you never looked into my background. You didn't realize that I know exactly how debt traps work."

Ofelia’s face flushed a deep, angry red. "You insolent little brat! It doesn't matter who you used to be! You're engaged to my son! You signed the preliminary civil registry documents three days ago!"

"And that's why you rushed this, isn't it?" Renata said, stepping closer to Ofelia. "You needed me legally bound to Mauricio before your secret burst wide open."

Renata pulled her personal tablet from her bag, tapped the screen a few times, and held it up.

On the screen was a official credit report and a legal notice from the Jalisco State Court.

"Three months ago, Ofelia took out an illegal 2.5 million peso loan from Prado's underground lending firm to cover her massive gambling debts from the casinos in Zapopan," Renata revealed, watching Ofelia’s eyes widen in horror. "The interest rate was 20% a month. When she couldn't pay, Prado threatened to take her house."

Mauricio turned to his mother, his jaw dropping. "Mom... is this true? You told me you needed money for a business investment!"

"Shut up, Mauricio!" Ofelia shrieked, her voice cracking.

"She didn't invest in anything, Mauricio," Renata continued mercilessly. "She made a deal with Prado. She promised him that if he gave her three months of grace, she would find a hard-working, financially stable woman for you to marry. Once we were married, she would force me to sign over the title of this apartment—which I paid for—and take out a heavy second mortgage using my high credit score to pay off her debt."

Prado’s jaw clenched. "You're smart, girl. Very smart. But smart people know when they're trapped. You're in this apartment with us. Nobody knows what happens behind closed doors."

Prado reached into his trench coat.

Mauricio froze. Ofelia took a step back.

Renata didn't even blink.

"Go ahead, Héctor," Renata said, her voice dropping an octave, razor-sharp. "Pull whatever you have in that coat. But before you do, look at the top corner of the wall behind you."

Prado hesitated, his hand still inside his jacket. He glanced up.

A small red light was blinking near the ceiling smoke detector.

"That is a high-definition 4K security camera streaming directly to a secure server at the Regional Prosecutor's Office," Renata said calmly. "My former colleague, Captain Vargas of the State Police, is watching this exact livestream right now. Every word you've said—every threat, every attempt at extortion—is recorded."

Prado pulled his hand out of his coat, empty, his forehead glistening with sweat. "You're bluffing."

At that exact moment, Renata’s phone on the counter rang loudly on speakerphone. A deep, authoritative voice boomed through the room.

"Renata, this is Vargas. We have the live feed. Tactical teams are five minutes away from your building. Hold your position."
