Chapter 7 - THE SIEGE OF STAR ISLANDMy world completely fractured. The Ghost Syndicate hadn't just tracked me—they had used me as a Trojan Horse. They knew I would seek refuge near power, and they had manipulated events to force Jericho to hire me, breaking through his impenetrable security.

"Jericho..." I gasped, showing him the screen. "Rosie."
Jericho’s face went completely pale, transformed by a father's ultimate nightmare.
"Get the SUV," he roared, his voice shaking the rain-soaked air. "NOW!"
We drove back to Star Island like demons released from hell, running red lights, tearing through the streets of Miami at 120 miles per hour. Jericho was on the radio, screaming at his mansion guards, but all he got was static.
The jammer was active.
When we crashed through the iron gates of the estate, our worst fears were realized. The grand driveway was littered with the bodies of Jericho’s guards. The mansion lights were out. Smoke billowed from the upper floor windows.
"Stay behind me!" Jericho snarled, pulling a tactical shotgun from the trunk.
"No," I said, drawing twin knives and a high-caliber pistol. "We clear the house together."
We burst through the front doors. The magnificent marble foyer was now a war zone. Glass was shattered everywhere; expensive artwork was torn to shreds.
We fought through the hallways, taking down rogue Syndicate operatives room by room. Every corner was a death trap. I used my knowledge of Syndicate protocols to predict their movements, clearing corners while Jericho provided devastating firepower.
We reached the second floor. Rosie’s bedroom door was kicked open.
"ROSIE!" Jericho screamed, lunging into the room.
Standing in the center of the nursery was Director Arthur Vance—my former commander, the man who had ordered the hit on my team five years ago... and the man who had orchestrated the murder of Jericho’s wife.
He held seven-year-old Rosie in front of him as a human shield, a gun pressed directly against her temple.
"Drop your weapons, Jericho," Vance said with a cold, aristocratic smile. "Or the Blackwood bloodline ends tonight."
Rosie was crying silently, tears streaming down her pale cheeks. The moment she saw me, she sobbed, "Lennox... help me..."
"Vance," I stepped forward, raising my gun. "This is between you and me. Let the child go."
"Ah, Katherine," Vance smirked. "Always the bleeding heart. You were my best assassin until you soft-hearted fools started asking questions. You brought me right to Jericho Blackwood. With him dead and his empire seized, the Syndicate will rule Florida."
"You touched my daughter," Jericho said, his voice dropping into a register so terrifying it didn't sound human. He took a slow step forward. "There is no place on this Earth you can hide from me."
"One step closer and I blow her head off!" Vance roared, pressing the barrel harder into Rosie’s head.
I looked at Rosie. Then I looked at Jericho.
In that split second, without words, Jericho and I communicated a plan.
"Vance," I said softly, lowering my gun slightly. "You're right. I was your best assassin. Which means you forgot Rule Number One of the Syndicate."
May you like
Vance frowned. "What?"
"Never stand in front of a mirror."
