Chapter 8 - THE TRUTH AND THE SHADOW KINGBehind Vance, the heavy glass mirror framing the nursery vanity reflected his exact position.

I didn't shoot at Vance.
I shot the mirror.
The bullet struck the reinforced glass at an angle, ricocheting perfectly off the steel backing plate and shattering the glass forward, striking Vance directly in the shoulder and eye.
Vance shrieked in agony, dropping his gun and letting go of Rosie.
"ROSIE, DOWN!" I screamed.
Rosie dropped to the floor, covering her head.
Jericho lunged like a panther. He closed the distance in a fraction of a second, grabbing Vance by the throat and slamming him through the plaster wall into the hallway.
The sound of cracking bones echoed through the mansion. Jericho lifted the Director of the Ghost Syndicate off his feet with one hand, smashing him against the marble banister overlooking the grand foyer.
"This is for my wife," Jericho hissed into Vance's bleeding face.
Jericho snapped Vance’s neck with a terrifying CRACK and threw his lifeless body over the balcony. Vance’s body crashed onto the chandelier before plummeting to the marble floor forty feet below.
Silence returned to the mansion.
I ran into the room and scooped Rosie into my arms. She buried her face in my neck, sobbing hysterically. "Lennox! You saved me! You saved me!"
"I've got you, baby," I whispered, holding her tight, tears blurring my vision. "You're safe now."
Jericho walked slowly back into the room. He was covered in blood, bruised, his clothes torn. But as he looked at me holding his daughter, the darkness in his eyes finally melted away, replaced by something deep, raw, and permanent.
He walked over, dropping his shotgun to the floor, and wrapped his massive arms around both of us, pulling us into a fierce embrace.
Three months later.
The news outlets were buzzing. The Ghost Syndicate was completely dismantled, exposed to the public by an anonymous leak. Nikolai Volkov’s empire had been swallowed overnight by Blackwood Enterprises.
The sun was setting over the Miami bay, painting the sky in breathtaking hues of pink and gold.
I stood on the balcony of the Star Island mansion, wearing a simple white dress, holding a glass of wine. The name 'Lennox Pierce' was no longer a fake identity—Jericho’s lawyers had made it 100% legal, clean, and bulletproof. I was free.
Soft footsteps sounded behind me. Warm arms wrapped around my waist, pulling my back against a broad, solid chest. Jericho rested his chin on my shoulder, his scar pressing gently against my cheek.
"What are you thinking about?" he asked, his voice low and warm.
"About how a broken blue crayon brought me here," I smiled, turning in his arms to face him.
Down on the lawn, Rosie was playing with a newly adopted golden retriever puppy, laughing under the palm trees.
Jericho looked down at me, his gray eyes filled with a softness he only ever showed to two people in the world. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small velvet box, opening it to reveal a stunning blue diamond ring that matched the color of that crayon.
"You came into my life as a ghost, Katherine," Jericho said, his voice thick with emotion. "But you became my light. Stay with us. Be my wife. Be Rosie's mother."
My heart did a violent flip in my chest. "Jericho... my past..."
"Your past died," Jericho interrupted gently, slipping the ring onto my finger. "Your future is right here. With the Shadow King."
I smiled, pulling his neck down to kiss him passionately under the Miami sunset.
May you like
"Yes," I whispered against his lips.
