CHAPTER 2 — THE ULTRASOUND THAT EXPOSED THE BIGGEST LIE

Diego crossed his arms confidently.

"This should be entertaining."

Paola smiled.

"I hope she finally admits everything."

Dr. Salinas didn't answer.

She pointed at the monitor.

"This fetus measures almost fourteen weeks."

Laura frowned.

"What?"

Diego laughed.

"Impossible."

The doctor spoke calmly.

"Your wife's pregnancy began approximately one month before your vasectomy."

The room froze.

Diego's smile disappeared.

"No."

Dr. Salinas turned the screen toward him.

"The dates are extremely consistent."

Laura looked confused.

"I don't understand..."

The doctor continued.

"The pregnancy occurred long before the surgery."

Diego's breathing became uneven.

Paola stared at him.

"You told me..."

He ignored her.

Dr. Salinas wasn't finished.

"There is something else."

She opened Diego's medical report.

"I received your surgical records because you requested them for the divorce."

Laura blinked.

"What records?"

"The hospital accidentally attached your post-operative laboratory report."

Diego suddenly lunged toward the desk.

"Don't!"

Too late.

The doctor read aloud.

"There were still millions of viable sperm present after surgery."

Silence.

Complete silence.

"The follow-up test recommended complete abstinence or contraception until clearance."

Laura slowly turned toward Diego.

"You never did the follow-up..."

He couldn't answer.

"You knew..."

His face turned pale.

"I..."

"You knew there was still a chance."

Paola looked horrified.

"You told me she cheated."

Diego swallowed.

"I thought—"

"No."

Laura interrupted.

"You wanted an excuse."

Paola stepped backward.

"Is that true?"

Diego remained silent.

The silence became his confession.

Then...

Dr. Salinas quietly added one final sentence.

"I'm afraid that's still not the biggest surprise."

Everyone looked at her.

She pointed back to the ultrasound.

"There appears to be another structure."

Laura's heart raced.

"My baby..."

"No."

The doctor smiled.

"Your baby is perfectly healthy."

She zoomed out.

A second heartbeat echoed through the room.

Then another tiny body appeared beside the first.

Laura covered her mouth.

"No..."

Dr. Salinas laughed softly.

"Congratulations."

"You're having twins."

Laura cried harder than ever before.

Meanwhile...

Paola's phone buzzed.

One notification.

Then another.

Then dozens.

Her expression turned white.

She slowly looked at Diego.

"They know."

"What?"

"Our office..."

She showed him the screen.

Someone had uploaded hospital documents proving Diego had ignored every medical instruction before accusing his wife.

His social media post had gone viral.

Now...

So had the truth.

But Diego still had no idea...

His worst nightmare hadn't even begun.
