Chapter 3 - The Gathering Storm

Over the next three weeks, a transformation took place within the walls of Doña Lola's ranch. The fragile, broken girl who had walked down the dusty road was slowly replaced by a woman with fire in her eyes.
Under Doña Lola’s guidance, Luciana did not hide. Instead, she began to make herself visible. She walked into the town square, her head held high, ignoring the whispers of the gossiping aunts and neighbors. She went to the local clinic, not to beg for answers, but to demand her own medical records directly from the central database in Guadalajara—bypassing Dr. Silva entirely.
When the official, certified documents arrived via courier, Luciana’s hands shook. She opened the envelope in front of Doña Lola.
The results were clear, stamped by the federal health department: Luciana Delgado — Fully fertile. No reproductive abnormalities detected.
"I am healthy," Luciana whispered, tears of relief streaming down her face. "I am not a dried-up field."
"You are a force of nature," Doña Lola corrected her, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Now, we need the final piece of the puzzle. We need to know who the real father of Elena’s baby is."
The answer came sooner than expected.
Luciana began secretly watching the Montero estate from the ridge of the valley. With a pair of binoculars provided by Doña Lola, she observed the daily coming and going of the ranch hands. It didn't take long to notice a pattern.
Whenever Rodrigo left for his business trips to Guadalajara, a sleek red pickup truck would park near the back entrance of the hacienda. The driver was Arturo, Rodrigo’s charismatic younger foreman—a man known for his charm and his lack of morals.
One evening, Luciana crept close to the stables, her heart pounding. Through the wooden slats of the barn, she heard hushed, urgent voices.
"You need to be careful, Arturo," Elena’s voice hissed. "Rodrigo is starting to ask questions about the due date. If he calculates the weeks, he’ll realize the timing doesn't match his business trips."
"Let him calculate," Arturo chuckled, his voice smug. "The fool is so desperate for an heir to show off to the town, he’d believe a miracle of the Virgin Mary. Once the baby is born and the estate is secured in your name, we’ll handle him. Just keep playing the loving, pregnant wife."
Luciana recorded every single word on her phone, her fingers trembling with a mix of horror and absolute vindication. She had them. She had the truth.
"Are you ready to strike?" Doña Lola asked when Luciana returned to the ranch, showing her the recording.
"No," Luciana said, her voice turning icy cold. "Not yet. A private confrontation is too easy for them. They will lie, they will pay off the police, they will bury it. I want them to hang themselves in public."

"And when will that be?" Doña Lola asked, a proud smile spreading across her weathered face.
"In three days," Luciana replied. "At the annual Montero Harvest Gala. In front of the bishop, the mayor, and every family in the state."
