Chapter 4 - The Harvest Gala

The Montero Harvest Gala was the grandest event of the year in Jalisco. The sprawling courtyard of the hacienda was decorated with thousands of fairy lights, white roses, and tables overflowing with expensive tequila and fine food. The high society of the region had gathered to celebrate not just the harvest, but the announcement of Rodrigo’s new union with Elena.

Rodrigo stood at the center of the courtyard, wearing a custom-tailored suit and his finest silver-buckled belt. Elena stood by his side, glowing in an elegant emerald green maternity dress that highlighted her small baby bump.

"My friends," Rodrigo spoke into the microphone, his voice booming across the crowd. "As you know, my previous marriage was a disappointment. A man of the land needs a fertile partner to ensure the future of his legacy. Tonight, I am proud to announce that the Montero name is secure. My beautiful fiancé, Elena, is carrying my son—the future master of these lands!"

The crowd erupted into applause. In the corner, Luciana’s parents, Don Aurelio and Doña Refugio, clapped sheepishly, looking guilty but eager to stay in the good graces of the wealthy Montero family.

"Is that so, Rodrigo?"

A clear, powerful voice echoed from the entrance of the courtyard, cutting through the applause like a knife.

The crowd gasped. The music stopped instantly.

Luciana walked into the light. She was not wearing her old, dusty clothes. She wore a stunning, blood-red dress that clung to her figure, her dark hair falling in elegant waves over her shoulders. She looked breathtaking, powerful, and utterly regal. Beside her walked Doña Lola, standing tall and imposing.

"Luciana?" Rodrigo’s face turned pale, then flushed with rage. "How dare you show your face here? Security, throw this crazy woman out!"

"Touch me, and you'll be dealing with the state police," Luciana said, stepping forward with absolute confidence. She held up a thick manila envelope. "I’m just here to deliver a wedding present to my ex-husband and my dearest friend."

"Get out, Luciana!" Elena shrieked, her voice cracking with sudden panic. "You're just jealous because you're a failure of a woman! You couldn't give him what I did!"

"Oh, Elena," Luciana said, her voice dripping with pity. "I didn't give him a child because I actually respect the laws of nature. Unlike you, I don't pretend to perform miracles."

Luciana turned to the crowd, raising her voice so every person in the courtyard could hear. "Three weeks ago, Rodrigo Montero kicked me out of his home, calling me 'barren' and 'useless.' My own family turned their backs on me because of his lies. But tonight, the truth comes out."

She opened the envelope and pulled out the certified medical documents.

"This is my medical report from the Ministry of Health in Guadalajara. I am completely fertile. And this..." she pulled out a second document, "...is the medical file of Rodrigo Montero, taken from the private archives of his cousin, Dr. Silva, before he could destroy it. Rodrigo is sterile. He has been sterile his entire life."

A collective gasp echoed through the crowd. Whispers broke out like wildfire.

"That's a lie!" Rodrigo roared, his face purple with fury. He lunged toward Luciana, but several prominent guests, including the local sheriff, stepped in his way. "She's fabricating this! She's crazy!"

"Am I?" Luciana smiled. She took out her phone, connected it to the grand sound system of the DJ booth via Bluetooth, and pressed play.
