CHAPTER 3 – The Woman Who Came Back From the Dead
Just as Richard tried to run upstairs, every light in the mansion suddenly went out.
The guests screamed.
Then the giant screen above the ballroom turned on.
A video began playing.
It showed Ethan’s mother, Amelia Whitmore, sitting in a hospital bed months before her death. Her face was pale, but her voice was calm.
“If you are watching this, then Richard has finally shown his true heart.”
Richard froze.
Vanessa whispered, “Turn it off!”
But no one could.
Amelia looked straight into the camera.
“I was not sick because of an accident. I was poisoned… slowly.”
The room exploded in shock.
Then the video changed.
Security footage appeared.
Vanessa was seen walking into Amelia’s room at night, pouring something into her tea.
Richard stepped back as if he had seen a ghost.
“No… Vanessa, tell me that’s not real.”
Vanessa’s perfect face cracked.
“She was going to leave you with nothing!” she screamed. “I did it for us!”
Ethan stood silently beside Harrison, holding the music box.
Then another voice came from the staircase.
“You did it for yourself.”
Everyone turned.
A woman in a black coat slowly walked down the stairs.
Her face was hidden beneath a veil.
When she removed it…
Richard fell to his knees.
