Ethan entered the boardroom furious.
“What is this nonsense?”
Then he saw Claire sitting at the head of the table.
Calm.
Elegant.
Silent.
Vanessa stood beside him, still wearing Claire’s bracelet.
Ethan laughed.
“You don’t belong in that chair.”
Claire opened the leather folder.
“No, Ethan.”
“I paid for it.”
The lawyer stood.
“Mrs. Blackwell owns forty-one percent of the company. With Mr. Arthur Blackwell’s voting proxy, she controls fifty-six percent.”
The room went dead silent.
Ethan’s face turned pale.
Vanessa slowly released his arm.
Claire looked at the board.
“First motion…”
“To remove Ethan Blackwell as CEO.”
Ethan slammed his fist on the table.
“You can’t do this!”
Claire finally smiled.
“That’s exactly what you told me when you handed me divorce papers.”
The vote passed.
Unanimously.
Vanessa tried to slip out, but Claire stopped her.
“One more thing.”
She pointed at the diamond bracelet.
“That belongs to me.”
Vanessa’s hands trembled as she removed it.
But the biggest shock came when Claire turned to Ethan and placed one final document in front of him.
It wasn’t just a termination notice.
It was a criminal investigation request.
For fraud.
Asset concealment.
And forged marital disclosures.
Ethan whispered,
“Claire… please.”
She leaned forward and said,
“You laughed when I lost my husband.”
