CHAPTER 1 — The Boy Who Knew Too Much

The funeral should have been silent.
Instead...
it became the beginning of a war.
Hundreds of black luxury cars lined the driveway of the Whitmore Estate.
Billionaires.
Politicians.
Celebrities.
Everyone had come to pay their respects after the sudden death of Margaret Whitmore—the powerful matriarch who had built one of America's largest real estate empires.
Her son, Alexander Whitmore, stood beside the casket.
Forty-two.
America's youngest billionaire.
Perfect tailored suit.
Cold gray eyes.
The man every business magazine called untouchable.
Reporters whispered.
"He inherited everything."
"Now he's worth over twelve billion."
"No wife."
"No children."
"The Whitmore bloodline ends with him."
Alexander didn't answer.
He simply stared at his mother's portrait.
Until...
the massive front doors slowly opened.
Every head turned.
A little boy—no older than nine—walked inside.
His sneakers were dusty.
His backpack was worn out.
His hoodie had been patched three different times.
The security guards rushed toward him.
"Kid, this is a private funeral."
The boy didn't move.
His bright blue eyes never left Alexander.
Then...
he spoke four quiet words.
"I'm your secret son."
Silence.
Someone laughed.
Another guest whispered,
"Whose child is this?"
Alexander frowned.
"I don't know you."
The boy slowly reached into his backpack.
Everyone expected a fake birth certificate.
Or maybe a childish prank.
Instead...
he placed an old silver pocket watch on Margaret Whitmore's casket.
Alexander froze.
His breathing stopped.
Because only three people in the entire world had ever seen that watch.
His father.
His mother.
And...
the woman Alexander had loved twenty years earlier.
Emily.
The girl who had disappeared without saying goodbye.
The boy looked straight into Alexander's eyes.
"My mom told me..."
"...you'd recognize this."
Alexander whispered,
"Where did you get that?"
The child answered calmly.
"My mother died last week."
"And before she died..."
"...she told me to find my father."
A murmur spread through the mansion.
The board members looked uncomfortable.
The lawyers exchanged nervous glances.
Alexander's fiancée, glamorous socialite Victoria Hale, stepped forward.
"This is obviously a scam."
The boy slowly unzipped another pocket.
He pulled out a faded photograph.
It showed...
a nineteen-year-old Alexander.
Smiling.
Holding a pregnant Emily.
Taken on a beach no one else knew they had ever visited.
Victoria's smile disappeared.
Alexander's face turned white.
Because that photo...
had never existed anywhere else.
Except...
inside Emily's apartment.
The apartment that had burned down twenty years ago.
So how...
was this child holding it?
And why...
did the back of the photograph contain Margaret Whitmore's own handwriting?
"If anything happens to us... never let him know the truth."
Alexander suddenly realized...
his mother had been hiding something for two decades.
May you like
But the biggest shock...
was still waiting upstairs.
