CHAPTER 1 — The Last Goodbye That Turned Into a Nightmare

Nobody expected a funeral to become a crime scene.
The crematorium chapel was silent except for muffled sobs and the soft sound of rain tapping against the stained-glass windows. White lilies surrounded Emilia Carter's open casket, filling the room with their sweet fragrance.
She was only twenty-eight.
Eight months pregnant.
Just five days earlier, she and her husband Daniel had painted the nursery pale yellow, laughing over whether their unborn daughter would inherit Emilia's green eyes or Daniel's stubborn smile.
Now she lay perfectly still.
Her peaceful face looked almost asleep.
Too peaceful.
Daniel hadn't cried.
Not once.
Everyone assumed grief had hollowed him out.
The doctors had called it a catastrophic cerebral hemorrhage. It happened so suddenly that even the emergency specialists couldn't save either mother or baby.
The official report was signed within hours.
Case closed.
The funeral moved unusually fast because Emilia's parents believed prolonging the farewell would only deepen everyone's pain.
Yet Daniel couldn't stop thinking about one strange detail.
The previous night at the hospital, while everyone else had been asked to leave, an unfamiliar doctor insisted on examining Emilia alone.
When Daniel returned only minutes later, the doctor was gone.
No one remembered his name.
No nurse could identify him.
Hospital administrators claimed no physician matching Daniel's description had even been on duty that night.
Everyone dismissed it as trauma.
Daniel tried to convince himself they were right.
Until now.
As the crematorium attendants slowly began closing the lid of the coffin, Daniel stepped forward for one final kiss.
He leaned close enough to whisper into Emilia's ear.
"I'm sorry... for every argument... every late night at work... every moment I thought we'd have forever."
His tears finally fell.
One landed on Emilia's cheek.
Then something impossible happened.
Daniel froze.
Her skin wasn't cold.
It felt...
Warm.
Not hot.
Not alive.
But unmistakably warmer than a body that had supposedly been dead for three days.
His heart slammed against his ribs.
His fingers instinctively touched her wrist.
Nothing.
No pulse.
Then—
A tiny twitch.
So faint that anyone standing farther away would have missed it.
Daniel stumbled backward.
"No..."
He grabbed her hand again.
Another movement.
Not from rigor.
Not from gravity.
Her little finger bent ever so slightly against his palm.
His blood turned to ice.
"STOP THE CREMATION!"
The entire chapel exploded into confusion.
Relatives rushed toward him.
"Daniel!"
"You're hallucinating!"
"Please... let her rest."
Even Emilia's father pulled him away.
"Son... grief can do terrible things."
But Daniel refused to move.
His eyes never left Emilia.
Then everyone heard it.
A sound.
Soft.
Barely audible.
Like someone struggling to inhale through blocked lungs.
The crematorium workers froze.
One attendant slowly placed his trembling hand over Emilia's chest.
His face turned white.
"I..."
He looked toward the funeral director.
"I think..."
Before he could finish...
Emilia's chest rose.
Just once.
The room erupted into screams.
Someone fainted.
Someone dropped a candle.
The funeral director immediately shouted,
"CALL AN AMBULANCE! NOW!"
As paramedics raced into the chapel minutes later, they found something no medical textbook could easily explain.
Emilia's heart wasn't beating normally...
But it wasn't completely silent either.
There was the weakest electrical activity imaginable.
Almost impossible.
Almost invisible.
Yet somehow...
She wasn't entirely gone.
And neither was the baby.
The doctors rushed both mother and unborn child back to the hospital while stunned mourners stood frozen in disbelief.
But none of them realized the most horrifying discovery wasn't inside Emilia's body.
May you like
It was waiting inside her medical file.
A file someone had secretly altered only hours after her "death."
