CHAPTER 2 — The Medical Records That Someone Wanted Buried Forever

The emergency department erupted into controlled chaos.

Doctors surrounded Emilia's bed.

Machines beeped wildly.

Every second mattered.

Daniel waited outside, his clothes still smelling of funeral flowers and candle smoke.

One hour later, the chief neurologist stepped into the hallway.

His expression said everything.

"I've practiced medicine for thirty-two years," he whispered.

"I've never seen anything like this."

Emilia had entered an extraordinarily rare neurological condition that mimicked clinical death so closely that even experienced physicians could mistake it.

Her heartbeat had slowed to almost nothing.

Her breathing had become nearly undetectable.

Combined with severe brain swelling, every standard test suggested she had died.

But one question remained.

How had multiple doctors failed to notice the faint remaining signs of life?

Daniel demanded the medical records.

The hospital administrator reluctantly handed them over.

At first glance, everything appeared normal.

Until Daniel noticed a single page.

The final neurological assessment had been printed at 11:47 p.m.

Yet the electronic security log showed the document was modified nearly forty minutes later.

By a user account that no longer existed.

The username had been deleted.

Someone had erased every trace.

Hospital security reviewed surveillance footage.

One camera near Emilia's ICU room mysteriously stopped recording for exactly twelve minutes.

Another camera showed a man wearing a surgical cap leaving through a restricted exit.

His face remained hidden.

No employee recognized him.

Then an elderly nurse quietly approached Daniel.

"I shouldn't be telling you this..."

She glanced nervously down the hallway.

"The night Emilia was declared dead... I heard two men arguing."

"What did they say?"

The nurse swallowed.

"One of them said..."

"If she wakes up, everything falls apart."

Daniel's stomach twisted.

Falls apart?

What exactly?

He hired private investigator Marcus Hale, a former homicide detective with twenty-five years of experience.

Marcus immediately noticed something disturbing.

Emilia had recently filed confidential legal paperwork.

Not for divorce.

Not for insurance.

She had requested access to financial records connected to her late grandfather's trust.

A trust worth nearly eighty million dollars.

Only one beneficiary remained.

Her unborn child.

If the baby died before birth...

The fortune would automatically pass elsewhere.

Marcus followed the money.

Within forty-eight hours he uncovered transfers totaling six million dollars into shell companies created only weeks before Emilia's collapse.

The trail eventually led toward one surprising destination.

Not Daniel.

Not Emilia's family.

The hospital's own board chairman.

Meanwhile, Emilia remained unconscious.

Doctors fought to keep both her and the baby alive.

Then, late one stormy night, a nurse burst from the ICU.

"She's moving!"

Daniel sprinted inside.

Emilia slowly opened her eyes.

She looked terrified.

Her lips barely moved.

She didn't ask about herself.

She didn't ask about the baby.

Instead, she grabbed Daniel's wrist with astonishing strength and whispered only four words.

"They... poisoned... my vitamins."

Before Daniel could ask another question...

Every monitor in the room suddenly went black.

May you like

The lights flickered.

Someone had cut power to the ICU.
