CHAPTER 7: The DNA That Should Never Have Existed

Martha Collins was buried three days later.
The funeral was private.
No reporters.
No cameras.
No speeches.
Only silence.
Alexander stood beside the grave, unable to forget Martha's final words.
"Your mother saved the wrong child..."
The sentence haunted him.
If it was true...
Then who was he?
And who had inherited the Grant empire?
That evening, Daniel entered Alexander's office carrying a sealed evidence bag.
"We recovered something from the bunker."
Alexander looked up.
"What is it?"
"A lock of hair."
The small envelope looked ordinary.
But the label made everyone's heart stop.
ETHAN – AGE 9
Daniel continued.
"We also recovered your baby hair from your first haircut."
Alexander immediately understood.
"You want a DNA comparison."
Daniel nodded.
"It may answer everything."
Alexander hesitated.
Then quietly replied,
"Do it."
Forty-eight hours later...
The laboratory director arrived personally.
He refused to send the report electronically.
His face was pale.
His hands trembled.
"I've repeated the test four times."
Alexander slowly opened the envelope.
His eyes scanned the first page.
Then...
Everything went silent.
Probability that Alexander Grant and Ethan Grant are biological brothers: 0.00%.
Sophia gasped.
"That's impossible..."
Daniel grabbed the report.
"No... no... this has to be contaminated."
The laboratory director shook his head.
"I thought the same."
"So I tested four different samples."
"The result never changed."
Alexander looked as if the floor had disappeared beneath him.
"If Ethan isn't my brother..."
"...then whose child am I?"
No one had an answer.
At that exact moment...
Rich suddenly stood up.
His ears pointed toward the hallway.
The dog began growling.
Low.
Slow.
Dangerous.
Everyone turned.
Footsteps echoed outside Alexander's office.
Security guards opened the door.
No one.
Just an ordinary cleaning cart.
One young janitor stood beside it.
Head lowered.
Apologetic.
"Sorry, sir... wrong floor."
He turned to leave.
Rich exploded.
The giant dog sprinted across the room.
The janitor panicked and ran.
"Stop him!"
Security chased him through the mansion.
The young man reached the kitchen...
Then collapsed.
Foaming at the mouth.
A cyanide capsule rolled from between his teeth.
He died before anyone could question him.
Daniel searched the cleaning cart.
Hidden beneath the supplies...
Was a tiny surveillance camera.
Still recording.
Whoever sent the janitor...
Had been listening to everything.
Even the DNA results.
Hours later...
An encrypted email appeared on Alexander's private computer.
There was no sender.
Only a subject line.
"Ready for the truth?"
Alexander clicked.
A single video began playing.
The footage was grainy.
Black and white.
Recorded inside a hospital.
Date:
October 18... twenty-seven years ago.
A nurse carried two newborn boys into the same nursery.
One wore a blue wristband.
The other...
Red.
A man wearing black gloves entered the room.
He looked around carefully.
Then...
He switched the babies.
Before disappearing.
Alexander's breathing stopped.
Sophia covered her mouth.
"Oh my God..."
The video ended with six words typed across the screen.
"You were never a Grant."
That night...
Alexander sat alone in his office.
Rich rested beside him.
For the first time...
The billionaire cried.
Not because he feared losing his fortune.
Not because someone wanted him dead.
But because he no longer knew...
Who he really was.
Just before sunrise...
Rich suddenly lifted his head.
He stared directly at Alexander.
Then slowly backed away.
Growling.
Not at the door.
Not at the window.
At...
May you like
Alexander himself.
