Chapter 5 - The Trap SpringsThe front doors of the mansion blew open with a thunderous crash.

"Federal Police! Nobody move!"

Half a dozen tactical officers swarmed into the grand foyer, their assault rifles lowered but ready. Within seconds, they flooded the library, their flashlights cutting through the darkness and pinning Alejandro Morales against the mahogany bookshelf.

Alejandro’s face twisted in sheer fury. He lunged forward, trying to grab Isabella by the throat, but two federal agents slammed him onto the desk, pressing his face hard against the polished wood as the metallic click of handcuffs echoed like a gunshot.

"Alejandro Morales, you are under arrest for conspiracy, industrial sabotage, attempted murder, and systemic corruption of public officials," the lead tactical commander announced, reading his rights while hauling him to his feet.

As they dragged Alejandro past Isabella, he glared at her with eyes burning pure poison.

"You think this stops with me?" Alejandro snarled, spittle flying from his lips. "You’ve disrupted a syndicate that goes straight to the highest levels of federal government! You’re a dead woman, Isabella! You and your weakling father!"

"Tell my regards to Verónica in holding," Isabella replied calmly, adjusting her blazer cuff without breaking eye contact. "I hear the food in maximum security is an acquired taste."

As the cruisers sped away into the rainy Mexico City night, silence descended on the mansion once again. But this time, it didn't feel oppressive. It felt like purification.

Exhausted, Isabella walked slowly up the grand staircase and pushed open her father’s bedroom door.

Ricardo was propped up against the pillows, looking pale and frail, but his eyes were clear—brighter and more alert than they had been in years. The heavy sedatives had finally cleared his system.

"Bella..." Ricardo whispered, his voice trembling as he reached out a frail hand. "I heard... I heard everything downstairs through the intercom. Is it... is it really over?"

Isabella walked over, sitting on the edge of the mattress, and took her father’s hand in hers. The calloused, hardworking hand that had once built skyscrapers from the ground up.

"It’s over, Dad," Isabella said softly, a gentle tear finally escaping her eye. "You’re safe now. No one will ever hurt you or take what belongs to you again."

Ricardo closed his eyes, a profound wave of relief washing over his weathered face. "I was so weak, Bella. I let her destroy everything... your mother’s memory, our family, our company..."

"You survived, Dad. That’s all that matters," Isabella said, kissing the back of his hand. "Now, we rebuild."

Little did she know, while the physical threat of Alejandro and Verónica had been neutralized, a hidden shadow was watching from across the street through a pair of high-powered binoculars, tapping away on an encrypted satellite phone.

"Target secured the house," a raspy voice whispered into the receiver. "The girl thinks she won. Should we execute Phase Two?"

A chilling voice replied from the other end of the line.

"Not yet. Let her think she’s safe. When she signs the final corporate consolidation papers tomorrow morning... that is when we strike."
