Chapter 8 - The Door Locked From the OutsideThree weeks later, the sun was shining brightly over Las Lomas.

The grand gates of the Montiel mansion gleamed in the afternoon light. Inside, the heavy, dark drapes had been replaced with crisp, white linen curtains that let the warm breeze sweep through the halls.
Ricardo Montiel sat comfortably in his favorite armchair on the back patio, sipping a cup of fresh chamomile tea without a single tremor in his hand. Beside him, Carmen stood smiling, chatting quietly about the garden.
Down the long gravel driveway, a sleek black town car pulled up to the front entrance.
Isabella stepped out, wearing a sharp white dress and sunglasses, carrying her familiar leather briefcase.
She walked up the stone steps, stopping at the heavy oak front door.
For six years, she had walked away from this house with a broken heart, feeling small, helpless, and unwanted.
Now, she stood as the undisputed CEO of one of the largest construction empires in the country. Verónica was sitting in a maximum-security prison cell awaiting trial. Alejandro and Lagos were facing decades behind bars. The poison that had rotted her family from the inside out had been completely excised.
Isabella turned around, looking out past the wrought-iron gates toward the bustling streets of Mexico City.
She didn't need to look back in fear ever again.

She reached out, pulled the heavy oak door shut behind her with a satisfying, echoing thud, and locked the deadbolt from the outside.
Her home was finally her own.
