From the forty-fifth floor, the entire bay sparkled brilliantly beneath a clear, endless blue sky. Down below, the tiny specs of traffic buzzed along the bridge like ants, completely unaware of the quiet power humming through the steel and glass tower they lived under.
I stood by the window, holding little Aria in my left arm while Alexander slept soundly in a sleek bassinet nearby. My body had healed completely, stronger and more resilient than it had ever been.
The door to my private office opened, and my executive assistant stepped in, holding a fresh cup of artisan coffee and a tablet.
“Excuse me, Ms. Vance,” she said respectfully. “The board meeting for the new tech acquisitions portfolio is ready to begin whenever you are.”
I turned away from the window, looking at my reflection in the polished glass. I wasn't the broken, bruised woman lying on the hardwood floor of a suburban mansion anymore. I was a mother, a titan of industry, and the undisputed master of my own destiny.
