Chapter 7 - The Aftermath and the AuditBy sunrise, the true scope of Adrian’s corporate destruction was laid bare across the financial news outlets.

“TECH GIANT APEX CAPITAL COLLAPSES OVERNIGHT IN HOSTILE TAKEOVER,” screamed the headlines of the Silicon Valley Gazette and Wall Street Journal online editions.
Financial blogs ran endless speculative pieces about the mysterious, anonymous holding entity that had swooped in and executed the debt-call covenant with surgical precision. None of them knew it was me. To the public, Apex Holdings LLC was a ghost entity managed by top-tier restructuring attorneys. Adrian himself was completely in the dark about who pulled the trigger—he only knew that his empire had evaporated into thin air.
I sat propped up in bed, surrounded by plush pillows, sipping a cup of warm chamomile tea while Marcus reviewed the final asset audit on his tablet across the bedroom.
“The liquidation of his remaining personal assets is already underway,” Marcus reported, tapping the screen. “His luxury cars have been impounded, his offshore accounts in the Caymans have been successfully frozen under federal distress orders, and his name has been formally stripped from the board of directors. By the end of the week, Adrian Vance will be legally bankrupt with zero credit rating and pending federal investigations into fraudulent financial misrepresentation.”
I set my teacup down on the nightstand, watching the morning sun spill through the tall bedroom windows. The air felt lighter. The constant, crushing anxiety that had plagued my entire pregnancy had vanished, replaced by a profound, radiant calm.
“Good,” I said softly. “Make sure the audits are thorough, Marcus. I want every single penny he embezzled from our pre-marital joint accounts over the years traced and recovered.”
“Already on it, Mrs. Vance,” Marcus replied with a rare, approving smile. He closed his tablet and stood up, adjusting his suit jacket. “By the way, your OB-GYN called this morning. She reviewed your overnight biometric telemetry. Your stress levels have plummeted by eighty percent, and your uterine activity has stabilized completely. The twins are safe.”
A genuine, radiant smile broke across my face. I placed both hands protectively over my belly, feeling a pair of strong, healthy kicks ripple outward.

“Thank you, Marcus,” I murmured. “For everything.”
“Just doing my job, ma'am. Or rather, executing your orders.” Marcus gave a polite nod, turned on his heel, and quietly left the room, leaving me alone in my quiet, peaceful sanctuary.
