Chapter 5 - THE HUNT AT VALLE DE BRAVOMauricio rushed to his mother's side, holding her bleeding chest. "Mother! Why?! Why did you stay with him?!"

Beatriz coughed up blood, looking up at the son she had betrayed. "I was... trapped... Mauricio," she whispered, her eyes losing their light. "He... he never loved... either of us..." Her head fell back, lifeless.

Mauricio squeezed his eyes shut, a agonizing roar of rage escaping his throat. The mother he knew was gone, murdered by the monster who had fathered him.

"Mauricio, we have to go! The federal tactical teams are arriving, but Guillermo is escaping through the woods!" Mateo yelled, reloading his rifle. "He has a helicopter waiting at the private ridge!"

Elena grabbed Mauricio’s hand, pulling him to his feet. "He burned my past, Mauricio. We cannot let him burn our future. We end this tonight."

The night air of Valle de Bravo was freezing, wet with heavy fog. Mauricio, Elena, and Mateo pursued Guillermo through the dense pine forest behind the estate. The distant sound of helicopter blades chopping through the thick fog alerted them to Guillermo’s location.

Guillermo was sprinting toward a private helipad hidden on a cliff overlooking the lake. He was carrying a briefcase full of bearer bonds and his encrypted hard drives.

"Guillermo!" Mauricio’s voice thundered through the trees.

Guillermo spun around at the edge of the cliff, the roaring rotor blades of the black Eurocopter creating a hurricane of wind and dust around him. The pilot was revving the engines, ready for takeoff.

"Stay back, Mauricio!" Guillermo screamed, holding his pistol with two hands. "I am your father! Everything I built was supposed to be yours!"

"You didn't build an empire, Dad!" Mauricio shouted, stepping out of the treeline into the blinding floodlights of the helicopter. "You built a graveyard! You murdered innocent people! You tried to murder ME!"

"I did what was necessary to survive in a dirty world!" Guillermo yelled back. "Come with me! We can take the offshore money! We can start over in Dubai! Leave the maid! Leave her brothers! You are a Salgado!"

Elena walked out of the shadows, standing right beside Mauricio. Her white dress was covered in dirt, mud, and her mother-in-law's blood, but her stance was unshakeable.

"He will never be like you," Elena said, her voice piercing through the roar of the helicopter. "Because Mauricio knows what love is. You only know greed."

Guillermo spat on the ground. "Love is a weakness that gets people killed."

He raised his gun, aiming directly at Elena’s chest. "Goodbye, little housekeeper."

Click.

Guillermo pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. The chamber was empty.

Guillermo looked at the gun in disbelief. He had spent his last bullet shooting his own wife.

Before he could rack another round, Mauricio tackled his father to the ground.
