Chapter 6 - THE SIRENS AT THE GATEWithin six minutes, the night air outside shattered under the deafening roar of tactical chopper blades.

Before Teresa’s local corrupt police chief could mobilize his men, federal black-and-grey armored vehicles smashed through our front security gates, crushing the plastic funeral chairs and black welcome signs into splinters. Floodlights turned the night into blinding daylight.

Boots hit the hardwood floors downstairs in a synchronized rhythm of absolute authority.

"Federal agents! Nobody move!"

The bedroom door burst open, and a heavily armed tactical team flooded the room, their assault rifles lowered only when they recognized my insignia.

My commanding officer, Director Harrison, stepped through the cluster of agents. He took in the scene: Diego unconscious on the floor, Teresa pinned beneath my boot, Ofelia trembling against the wall, and my disabled father watching with vindicated pride.

"Situation report, Vance?" Harrison asked crisply.

"Secured, Director," I replied, lifting my foot off my mother's back. Two federal agents immediately stepped forward, slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto Teresa and hauling her to her feet. "My family murdered my wife to cover up cartel-linked embezzlement. The digital evidence is backed up on that TV, and the physical records are locked in the basement safe."

Teresa spat blood onto the floor, her eyes glaring at me with pure venom as federal agents read her her rights. "You think you've won, Alejandro? You destroyed your own family! The cartel won't let you live to see the sunrise!"

"My family died the moment you decided to kill Mariana," I replied coldly, refusing to look back as they dragged her away.

Ofelia and Diego were hauled out next, their protests drowned out by the whirring of chopper blades and the clanking of handcuffs.

As the house finally grew quiet, save for the hum of federal computers scanning our network, I knelt down beside my father’s wheelchair.

"You saved us, Dad," I whispered, my voice finally cracking under the weight of the grief I had been holding back. "You gave me the proof."

Ernesto reached out with his trembling right hand, gently wiping a tear from my cheek. He didn't need to speak. His eyes said everything: Protect our blood.
