Chapter 7 - The Showdown in the PenthouseThe tension in the penthouse was thick enough to suffocate. Victor Vance strolled across the polished marble floor, his polished Italian shoes clicking rhythmically against the stone, stopping just a few feet away from Gabriel and Clara.

Clara instinctively shrank back, hiding behind Gabriel’s leg. Gabriel stood up slowly, positioning himself like a shield between his daughter and the man who had come to destroy them.

"You're trespassing, Victor," Gabriel said, his voice deadly calm. "Get out of my home before I have security throw you out."

"Security?" Victor chuckled, gesturing to the sheriff standing by the elevator. "Mr. Mendes, I’m afraid security takes orders from the court now. As you can see, I hold the valid execution of Lucia Martinez's final estate provisions. Under Massachusetts probate law, since you initially abandoned the mother and child twenty years ago, your legal standing as a primary guardian is null and void unless proven by a court-ordered genetic marker analysis—an analysis that, coincidentally, my uncle holds the exclusive injunction over."

Gabriel’s eyes narrowed. "You manipulated a dying woman."

"Manipulated?" Victor feigned a look of deep offense. "Lucia Martinez was a destitute, sick single mother. My uncle’s charitable foundation paid for her medical treatments during her final months. In exchange, she signed a legally binding agreement naming our family as trustees of her estate—including her daughter's guardianship."

Victor stepped closer, lowering his voice so only Gabriel could hear. "You thought you could buy your way out of your sins, Gabriel. You thought you could build an empire and leave your past in the dirt. But your past has come back to collect. And I'm going to take your company, your fortune, and your daughter, leaving you with nothing."

Gabriel didn't flinch. He didn't raise his voice. Instead, a slow, terrifying smile touched the corner of his lips.

"You think you're the smartest man in this room, Victor," Gabriel said softly.

Victor’s smile faltered slightly. "What are you talking about?"

"You assumed I wouldn't run a background check on your uncle's charitable foundation the moment Regina handed me that document," Gabriel replied, reaching into his jacket pocket. "You assumed I wouldn't find out about the offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands where your family funnels embezzled charity funds."

Victor’s face drained of color. "That's a lie."

"Is it?" Gabriel pulled out a sleek encrypted tablet and tapped the screen. A live audio recording began to play through the penthouse speakers—a crystal-clear conversation between Arthur Vance and a corrupt probate judge discussing how to forge Lucia's signature on the secondary trust document.

The social workers gasped. The sheriff’s hand instinctively dropped to his belt.

"That... that's fabricated!" Victor stammered, lunging forward.

"Try telling that to the FBI's financial crimes division," Gabriel said smoothly, holding up his phone, where a federal agent was already on speakerphone. "Agent Miller, you heard the confession. Arrest the trespasser."
