Chapter 6 - The Bloodlines Fall

(Suggested Facebook Hook: THE SISTER WAS ALIVE! But as she pointed the gun at the Mafia boss, she whispered the ultimate twist: "The baby isn't yours, Matteo. And he isn't Liana's nephew either..." THE SHOCKING FINALE!)
Liana gasped, her voice choking in her throat. "Elena...?"
Elena Graves was dressed in expensive silk, her eyes cold, devoid of the warmth Liana remembered from their childhood. She didn't look like a victim. She looked like a queen.
"Hello, big sister," Elena said, her voice dripping with venom. "You always were the stupid one. Always playing the grieving martyr."
"Elena... you're alive," Liana whispered, taking a step toward her. "They told me you died..."
"I had to die," Elena laughed, a harsh, mocking sound. "To escape Matteo, and to let the Rossis think their plan succeeded."
Matteo stepped in front of Liana, shielding her and Nico, who was sleeping in the adjoining nursery. His eyes narrowed at his second-in-command. "Marco. You betrayed me."
"The Rossi syndicate offered me half of your territory, Matteo," Marco said with a smirk. "And Elena here... well, she’s a very persuasive woman."
Liana’s mind was spinning. "Elena... why? Nico is your son! How could you let him starve? How could you let them hunt him?"
Elena’s eyes flashed with absolute cruelty.
"Because he isn't my son," Elena whispered.
The room fell into a suffocating silence.
"What?" Liana breathed.
"My baby—the one I had with Matteo’s captain—he died during delivery," Elena said, her voice completely emotionless. "The clinic was run by the Rossis. We needed a healthy baby boy to present to Matteo so we could secure the Varric fortune. So, we took a healthy baby from a poor, helpless woman who was giving birth in the next room."
Elena pointed her finger directly at Liana.
"We took your baby, Liana. The clinic told you he died of complications. But he didn't. Nico... is your son."
Liana’s heart stopped.
The baby she had been nursing... the baby whose cries had pulled her to this mansion... the baby she had mourned for twenty-two days...
He wasn't her nephew. He was her own flesh and blood. Her son.
"You..." Liana whispered, a rage she had never felt in her life rising from the depths of her soul.
"But it doesn't matter now," Elena said, raising her gun. "Once Matteo is dead, Marco and I will take the baby to the Rossi elders, claim the inheritance, and run the city. Goodbye, sister."
Elena pulled the trigger.
BANG!
But Matteo was faster. He threw himself in front of Liana, taking the bullet directly to his shoulder. At the same time, Matteo fired his own weapon.
The bullet caught Marco square between the eyes. He dropped instantly.
Elena screamed, aiming at Matteo again, but Liana—fueled by the primal fury of a mother defending her child—sprang forward. She tackled her sister to the ground.
The gun went off, the bullet shattering a vase. Liana wrested the gun from Elena's grip, throwing it across the floor. She pinned her sister down, staring into the face of the monster who had stolen her life.
"You took my baby," Liana hissed, tears streaming down her face. "You made me grieve him."
"Liana, please! We're sisters!" Elena begged, seeing the raw, lethal look in Liana’s eyes.
"My sister died in that clinic," Liana said.
Before Elena could speak, the doors burst open as Matteo’s loyal guards finally flooded the room, securing the perimeter.
Elena was dragged away, screaming, destined for a dark basement from which no mafia traitor ever returned.
THE EPILOGUEThe storm outside finally cleared, leaving the morning sky painted in soft shades of gold and pink.
Matteo sat on the edge of the sofa, his shoulder bandaged, looking pale but alive. Liana stood by the window, cradling Nico in her arms. The baby was awake, his bright blue eyes looking up at her, a tiny bubble forming on his lips.
"What will you do now?" Matteo asked softly. "You know the truth. You can take him and run. I will give you enough money to live anywhere in the world. You don't have to be a part of this dark world."
Liana looked down at her son. Then, she looked at Matteo.
She saw the man who had taken a bullet to protect her. The man who, despite his ruthless reputation, had cried for his son’s life in the rain.
She walked over to him and sat down, placing her hand over his.
"No one is running," Liana said, her voice firm, filled with a new, unbreakable strength. "We are going to protect him. Together."

Matteo looked at her, a slow, genuine smile spreading across his face. He wrapped his arm around her, pulling his new family close.
The empire had changed forever. The maid had not only saved the baby—she had conquered the heart of the beast, and together, they would rule the city.
