Chapter 3 - THE RICHEST FATHER IN THE SCHOOLThe rear door of the Rolls-Royce opened, and out stepped Julian Vance.

Julian was a titan in the world of venture capital and tech acquisitions. He was Pine Hill Academy’s largest individual benefactor, having donated a multi-million-dollar science and technology wing the previous year. He wore a bespoke charcoal suit, a tailored silk tie, and an expression of absolute, crushing exhaustion.

Julian had just flown in from a grueling multi-nation acquisition meeting in Tokyo, but he had promised his seven-year-old son, Lucas, that he would personally drop off his forgotten science fair project.

As Julian walked briskly toward the entrance, his sharp eyes caught two small figures huddled on the concrete bench. He slowed his pace.

He saw Emma crying quietly into her hands. He saw Lily rubbing her freezing, bare feet against each other to generate warmth.

Julian stopped dead in his tracks. A wave of fierce, protective anger surged through him—the same killer instinct that made him ruthless in the boardroom, but channeled entirely toward two shivering children.

He altered his course, walking straight toward the bench.

"Hey," Julian said softly, kneeling down so he was at eye level with them. His voice was deep, rich, and surprisingly gentle. "What are you two doing out here? Where are your coats? Where are your shoes?"

Emma looked up, startled by the wealthy stranger. Lily clutched her backpack tighter.

"The substitute teacher sent us away," Lily answered bravely. "Because we don't have shoes. She said we're poor and we don't belong here."

Julian’s jaw tightened. A muscle jumped in his cheek. He looked down at their dusty, bruised feet, then at their immaculate uniforms and neat braids. He saw the profound dignity with which these little girls carried themselves despite the humiliation inflicted upon them.

"What is your names?" Julian asked, his voice steady.

"I'm Lily. This is my twin sister, Emma Parker."

Julian’s heart skipped a beat. Parker.

He stood up slowly, looking up at the towering facade of the academy. He knew every family in this school. He knew the tuition was forty-five thousand dollars a year. But he also knew something else—something the administration thought was safely buried in the school's charter.

"Come with me, girls," Julian said, offering each of them a strong, reassuring hand. "You're coming inside with me. And nobody is going to send you anywhere."
