Chapter 4 - THE BOARDROOM CONFRONTATIONDr. Sterling, the headmaster of Pine Hill Academy, was smiling obsequiously as he poured coffee into a delicate china cup for Julian Vance inside his sprawling office.

"Mr. Vance! What an unexpected honor," Dr. Sterling purred, his eyes shining with dollar signs. "We heard your expansion bid in Asia was a massive success. The academy is endlessly grateful for your continued generosity. Did Lucas need something?"

The door to the office swung open.

Dr. Sterling’s welcoming smile froze, shattering instantly.

Standing in the doorway was Julian Vance. Holding his right hand was Emma Parker. Holding his left hand was Lily Parker. Their bare feet stepped onto the plush, imported Persian rug of the principal’s office.

"Mr... Mr. Vance?" Dr. Sterling stammered, scrambling up from his leather desk chair. "Why do you have... who authorized these children to be in here? Mrs. Gable! Security!"

"Shut your mouth, Sterling," Julian said. His voice wasn't loud, but the sheer, glacial authority behind it commanded total obedience.

Dr. Sterling choked on his own saliva. "P-pardon?"

"You heard me," Julian walked forward, gently guiding the twins to two high-backed leather chairs. He turned back to face the pale, sweating headmaster. "Explain to me why two honor students in Room 4B are sitting outside on the freezing concrete in their bare feet."

Dr. Sterling cast a terrified look at Mrs. Gable, who had rushed in behind them.

"Well, Mr. Vance, strict adherence to the uniform policy—" Dr. Sterling began, trying to regain his composure. "Our institution maintains a strict standard of decorum. A substitute teacher, Mrs. Thompson, noted a severe breach of protocol. Footwear is mandatory. We cannot have standards slipping into destitution, otherwise the elite reputation of the academy—"

"Decorum?" Julian interrupted, stepping forward until he loomed over the desk. "You're talking about decorum while your staff publicly humiliates five-year-old children? You threw them out because their family is struggling financially?"

"Mr. Vance, you don't understand," Dr. Sterling pleaded, sweating profusely. "Pine Hill is a private academy. We rely on tuition and elite private funding. If we bend the rules for one family—"

"You'll what? Lose a donation?" Julian’s eyes flashed with pure contempt. "Let me educate you on something, Sterling. Do you know who I am to this school?"

"Our... our largest benefactor..."

May you like

"Incorrect," Julian said coldly. "I am the chairman of the endowment committee. And more importantly... I drafted the original charter for Pine Hill Academy twelve years ago."

Dr. Sterling went completely white.
