Chapter 5 - THE DISCOVERY OF THE CHARTERThe silence in the office was so absolute that the ticking of the antique grandfather clock sounded like falling hammers.

Dr. Sterling gripped the edge of his desk, his knees trembling. "The... the charter?"

"Yes," Julian said, pulling a sleek titanium-cased tablet from his briefcase. He didn't sit down. He stood tall, tapping the screen with a manicured finger. "When I founded this academy alongside three other philanthropists, we set up a permanent, non-negotiable directive. Section 4, Paragraph B of the Pine Hill Educational Trust."

Dr. Sterling swallowed hard, his throat dry as dust. "I... I don't recall—"

"Of course you don't," Julian snapped. "Because corrupt administrators like you bury clauses that don't serve your elitist profit margins. That section explicitly states that twenty percent of Pine Hill's enrollment MUST be reserved for local working-class and low-income families, fully funded by a perpetual endowment trust established by the founders."

Julian slammed the tablet down on the desk, facing the screen toward the headmaster.

"A fund currently holding fourteen million dollars," Julian continued, his voice rising in righteous fury. "A fund meant to provide uniforms, books, meals, and shoes to children whose parents work themselves to the bone to keep this city running. A fund that you and your board have been quietly redirecting into luxury campus upgrades and administrative bonuses!"

Mrs. Gable gasped, stepping backward until her back hit the filing cabinet.

Dr. Sterling opened and closed his mouth like a fish out of water. "Mr. Vance... that's a misunderstanding... the allocation is subject to board discretion—"

"Discretion?" Julian sneered. "You withheld aid from working families while pocketing performance kickbacks. And today, your substitute teacher weaponized that cruelty against two little girls whose mother cleans the very offices where your board members sit."

Julian turned around, kneeling beside Emma and Lily. He pulled a pristine, silk handkerchief from his breast pocket and gently wiped a speck of dust from Emma’s little toe.

"You're safe now," Julian whispered to them, his tough facade melting into profound tenderness. "Nobody is ever going to make you feel small again."

He looked back up at Dr. Sterling. "Get your coat, Sterling. You're going to make a phone call. And you're going to bring their mother here."
