Chapter 8 - THE TRUTH ABOUT LUCAThe room descended into absolute chaos for a moment before Tom raised his hand, signaling his men to release Philippe. Philippe slumped back into the chair, defeated, his head bowed in utter humiliation. He looked old, broken, and small—stripped of the arrogant armor that had protected his fragile ego for decades.

Juliette Moreau turned her attention to Luca, who stood frozen beside Claire, watching the scene unfold with wide eyes.
"Luca," Juliette said softly, her harsh corporate demeanor melting into something surprisingly maternal. "Your father never told you the truth about where Beaumont Holdings really came from, did he?"
Luca blinked, shaking his head slowly. "What do you mean? My grandfather founded the bank."
"Your grandfather founded a small regional credit union in Antwerp," Juliette corrected, opening her portfolio and pulling out a yellowed legal document. "Which went bankrupt in nineteen-eighty-four. The bank was actually rescued, funded, and rebuilt from the ground up by a silent equity partner who injected five million dollars of venture capital to save the family from ruin."
Hélène gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. "That's... that's impossible. Philippe always said—"
"Philippe lied," Juliette interrupted, sliding the document across the table toward me. "The primary investor who saved the Beaumont name, the person who actually owns sixty percent of the holding company's foundational shares... was not a Belgian banker at all."
I reached out, taking the document from Juliette. I looked down at the signature at the bottom of the page—dated thirty-eight years ago—and smiled gently.
"Arthur Vance," I read aloud, tracing my finger over my late father’s signature.
Philippe’s head snapped up, his eyes wide with sheer horror as he stared at me. "No... no, that can't be! The Vance family lost their fortune in the seventies!"
"My father lost his diplomatic post in Brussels, Philippe, but he never lost his private investments," I said calmly, looking up from the paper. "When your father came crawling to him in nineteen-eighty-four, begging for a bailout to save his failing bank from bankruptcy, my father agreed to fund it on one condition: that the Beaumont family name would forever remain honorable, fair, and charitable. And if they ever broke that trust... the equity shares would automatically revert back to the Vance estate."
I looked across the table, locking eyes with the broken man who had tried to humiliate my family just yesterday.
"Which means, Philippe, that you don't just lose your personal wealth today. You lose the bank. You lose the estate in Brussels. You lose everything."
Luca stood frozen, the magnitude of the revelation crashing over him. "My family's entire empire... was built on your family's charity?"

"And squandered by your father's arrogance," I added gently.
