Chapter 2 - The Setup Room"Get away from her!" I roared, launching myself across the room.

I tackled the fake bellhop to the carpet. We grappled, his fist catching my jaw, tasting copper in my mouth. But adrenaline made me unstoppable. I pinned him down, pressing my forearm against his throat.
"Who hired you?" I demanded, my voice a lethal whisper. "Tell me or I break your jaw."
"E-EfraÃn!" the man choked out. "He paid me ten grand! I was just supposed to lie next to her while they took photos!"
I shoved him aside and rushed to the bed. "Julieta. Julieta, honey, wake up." She was pale, her breathing terrifyingly shallow. The drug was ravaging her system.
Suddenly, footsteps pounded behind me. I turned, expecting EfraÃn. Instead, it was Paula, followed by two massive hotel security guards.
"I called them on the way up!" Paula yelled. "Esteban, we need to get her to a hospital, now!"
We carefully lifted Julieta onto a luggage cart, wrapping her in a blanket to hide her from the paparazzi waiting downstairs. As the security guards pushed the cart toward the service elevator, I looked at Paula. "Why are you doing this? After everything they put us through?"
Paula’s eyes hardened. "Because for five years, I thought you were the monster who tried to take my boys. Today, I found out it was your bloodline. We take them down together, Esteban."
The elevator doors pinged open in the basement garage. But standing in front of our getaway car wasn't an orderly or a valet.

It was a woman in a black trench coat. She turned around, and the blood froze in my veins.
It was my mother. The woman we had buried three years ago.
