Chapter 7 - The Midnight AuctionWe abandoned the SUV a mile down the coast. The yacht, The Golden Legacy, was docked at Pier 4, heavily guarded by men holding submachine guns.

"I'll cut the main power lines to the dock," Julieta whispered, slipping into the shadows with a pair of bolt cutters. "When the lights go out, you and Paula move."

Click.

The entire pier plunged into pitch blackness.

Chaos erupted. Russian curses echoed over the water as guards fumbled for flashlights. Paula and I sprinted up the gangway, moving like ghosts. We bypassed the main deck and slipped through a ventilation grate into the ship's lower bowels.

Below deck, through a glass ceiling, we looked down into the extravagant dining room. Efraín, Tomás, and my mother were sitting across from a terrifyingly scarred man—Viktor Volkov.

"The company is yours, Viktor," Efraín said nervously, sliding a golden tablet across the table. "Thumbprint access. Fifty-one percent of the shares."

Viktor didn't look at the tablet. He looked at my mother. "And the insurance? The heirs?"

My mother snapped her fingers. Two guards dragged my young sons, Mateo and Leo, into the room. They were crying. Seeing them terrified snapped the last thread of my sanity.

"Now," I whispered to Paula.

I smashed the glass ceiling with a fire extinguisher and dropped directly onto the mahogany dining table, right in front of Viktor Volkov.

"The deal is off," I snarled, as Paula dropped down beside me, dual-wielding her weapons.
