Chapter 5 - THE NURSERY NEXT DOORJudge Harrison turned the final major section of the red folder: Tab Five, labeled: Property, Paternity, and Pre-Planning.

“Mrs. Reed,” the judge said, reviewing a series of high-resolution color photographs and architectural blueprints. “What are these? They appear to be blueprints and interior design invoices for a secondary residential property.”
“That, Your Honor, is the penthouse apartment located at 440 Park Avenue South,” I said clearly. “Leased and paid for in full by Evan Reed three months ago.”
Evan’s head snapped up, his eyes wide with sheer terror. “No,” he whispered. “No, you couldn't have... how did you find that?”
“You forgot to delete the confirmation email from your consolidated junk mail folder, Evan,” I replied coldly. “You thought I never checked your email. But when you claimed you were working late at the office three nights a week, your digital footprint told a very different story.”
Judge Harrison looked at the invoices. “Interior design services for a custom nursery, billed to Vanessa Vance, with a delivery date set two weeks prior to the child’s birth. Invoices total over forty-five thousand dollars.”
Vanessa went completely pale in the gallery. She grabbed her designer handbag and stood up, trying to slip toward the exit doors at the back of the courtroom.
“Bailiff,” Judge Harrison called out without looking up. “Kindly ensure Miss Vance remains in the courtroom. Her testimony will be required regarding the origin of these funds.”
The bailiff stepped into the aisle, blocking Vanessa’s path. She slumped back into her seat, trembling violently.
“Your Honor,” I continued, my voice echoing through the silent room. “Evan didn't just abandon me at the hospital because he was angry about custody. He abandoned me because he and Vanessa had already planned to replace me. They had contracted a private maternity facility in Zurich, Switzerland, where Vanessa was scheduled to fake a pregnancy and claim this exact child as her own biological heir within six months, cutting me out entirely through a pre-arranged adoption fraud scheme.”
The courtroom erupted into whispers. Even the reporters sitting in the press box began scribbling furiously in their notebooks.
“Order! Order in the courtroom!” Judge Harrison banged his gavel twice, the sharp cracks cutting through the chaos. He turned his gaze back to Evan, who was now shaking uncontrollably in his seat.
“Mr. Reed,” the judge said, his voice dripping with absolute disgust. “You dragged your wife—who had given birth just six days prior—into a court of law on false accusations of kidnapping, while simultaneously executing an elaborate financial fraud and child displacement scheme with your mistress.”

Evan opened his mouth, but no words came out. His lips quivered, his elite status and arrogant charm stripped away, leaving only a pathetic, exposed coward.
“And that,” Judge Harrison added, looking down at me with deep judicial respect, “is why you brought the baby. Not for sympathy. But because the child’s DNA is the ultimate piece of physical evidence that shatters every single lie they constructed.”
