Chapter 6 - THE CORPORATE SHOWDOWNThe grand lobby of Vanguard Global Enterprises gleamed with polished Italian marble, brushed steel, and towering glass windows. It was an epicenter of corporate power, sleek, professional, and heavily guarded by private security.

At 2:00 PM on Thursday, the revolving glass doors spun open, and three disheveled figures spilled into the pristine space.

Daniel, Carmen, and Valeria looked entirely out of place. Daniel’s shirt was unbuttoned at the collar, Carmen looked like a deposed queen wearing sunglasses indoors to hide her puffy eyes, and Valeria held her phone out, recording a live stream to capture what she foolishly believed would be their triumphant vindication.

"We are here to see Mariana Rodriguez," Carmen announced loudly, marching straight up to the high-security reception desk. "Inform her that her husband and mother-in-law are here to see her immediately."

The receptionist, a sharp woman named Elena with flawless posture, looked up slowly from her dual monitors. She didn't blink.

"Do you have an appointment, ma'am?" Elena asked, her tone professionally polite yet entirely devoid of warmth.

"An appointment? I am her family!" Carmen scoffred, slamming her handbag onto the granite counter. "We don't need an appointment to see our own flesh and blood. Now call her office on the executive floor and tell her to come down right now before we make a scene!"

Several passing executives in tailored suits glanced over, whispering quietly among themselves.

Valeria immediately thrust her phone closer to the desk, speaking loudly to her live stream audience. "Guys, look at this. They're trying to block us from seeing my sister-in-law. This is corporate tyranny. Mariana is hiding behind her desk like a coward!"

Elena didn't lose her composure. Instead, she pressed a discreet button under her desk.

Within thirty seconds, four massive security guards in black tactical suits stepped out from the private elevator bank, blocking any further advancement into the building.

"Sir and ma'as, you are trespassing on private corporate property," the head security guard said, his voice deep and absolute. "You have been placed on a permanent blacklist across all Vanguard Global facilities. You need to leave right now, or we will escort you out in handcuffs."

"You can't do this!" Daniel shouted, stepping forward with a desperate look in his eyes. "I am a manager! I have business here! Mariana is my wife—"

"Mr. Daniel Rodriguez," a crisp, cool voice echoed from the elevator lobby.

The crowd parted.

I stepped out of the private elevator, dressed in a sharp, impeccably tailored charcoal pantsuit, towering heels, and a diamond wristwatch that caught the afternoon light. My hair was pulled back into a sleek ponytail, and my expression was as cold and unyielding as glacial ice.

Behind me stood Marcus Vance, holding a thick leather briefcase.

The lobby fell into absolute, breathless silence. Valeria’s phone camera instinctively swung toward me, capturing every pixel of my terrifying composure.

"Mariana!" Daniel gasped, a pathetic wave of relief washing over his face. "Thank God. Look, this is getting out of hand. The motel, the cops, the cards—let's just go home. We can talk about this like family."

I didn't stop walking until I stood five feet away from them. The guards parted respectfully, creating a wide berth around me.

I looked down at Daniel, then at Carmen, whose jaw was trembling with suppressed rage.

"Family?" I asked softly, my voice carrying clearly across the silent lobby. "Is that what you call people who lock a three-year-old child on a freezing balcony while stuffing your faces with luxury food bought with money you didn't earn?"

Carmen stepped forward, pointing a shaking finger at my face. "You ungrateful, cold-hearted bitch! You treat your husband like a servant and throw his family onto the street! You belong to this family, and you will respect—"

"I belong to no one," I cut her off, my voice slicing through her tirade like a scalpel. "And as of this morning, Marcus filed the finalized temporary injunctions for our divorce. Furthermore, your son's employment contract with Vanguard Global has been terminated for gross financial misconduct and conflict of interest."

Daniel staggered backward as if he had been physically struck.

"Terminated...? No... you can't do that! I built my career here!"

"You built nothing," I said calmly. "Every promotion, every bonus, every account you ever managed was funneled to you through my executive sponsorship. Without me, you are a mid-level paper-pusher with zero qualifications and a mountain of unpaid debts."

I turned my gaze directly toward Valeria’s phone camera, smiling faintly for the live stream audience watching live.

"And to all of Valeria's followers watching right now," I added clearly, "enjoy the show. Because the collapse you're filming isn't a tragedy—it's an eviction of parasites."
