Chapter 7 - THE CLOSING NETThe public humiliation at Vanguard Global's lobby was the final nail in the coffin of their collective delusion.

By Friday evening, the video Valeria had live-streamed—attempting to expose me as a villain—had backfired spectacularly. Within hours, internet sleuths, corporate whistleblowers, and angry taxpayers had clipped the video, highlighting Carmen's arrogant entitlement, Daniel's spineless cowardice, and Valeria’s vapid narcissism.

By Saturday morning, the hashtag #SeafoodParasites was trending nationally.

Daniel’s former colleagues didn't offer sympathy; they flooded group chats with screenshots of his past arrogance, revealing how he used to brag about "having a wife who works so hard he didn't even need to open his own wallet."

Worse still, landlords and creditors across the city caught wind of the viral scandal.

The cheap motel where they were staying suddenly served them an eviction notice of their own, terrified that association with the viral laughingstock would ruin their business reputation. By Saturday afternoon, Daniel, Carmen, and Valeria found themselves standing on a crowded downtown sidewalk once again—this time, surrounded by jeering teenagers pointing at their designer luggage and laughing.

"Mom, we need to get out of the city," Valeria cried, hiding her face beneath a large baseball cap. "Everyone knows who we are! My Instagram comments are full of clown emojis!"

Carmen sat rigidly on a bench, her spirit finally broken, though her pride remained stubbornly intact. "Your father... your father’s pension is all we have left. We're going back to the provincial town. We'll rent a small room."

Daniel didn't say a word. He sat with his head in his hands, staring at the concrete pavement. He had lost his wife, his daughter, his home, his career, and his dignity—all because he couldn't stand up to his mother and chose to treat his own flesh and blood like an inconvenience.

Meanwhile, miles away in our new penthouse overlooking the ocean, life was quiet, peaceful, and filled with genuine warmth.

Camila sat on the living room rug, building a towering castle out of colorful blocks, her laughter ringing out like music.

"Look, Mommy! The castle is big and strong!" she cheered, holding up a completed tower.

I knelt beside her, wrapping my arms around her warm, healthy little body, kissing her cheek.

"It's the strongest castle in the world, sweetie," I smiled, breathing in the sweet scent of her hair. "And nobody is ever going to knock it down."
