CHAPTER 6 — "The DNA Report Exposed the Family's Greatest Lie… And My Husband Walked Away From His Mother Forever."

No one dared speak.

Daniel slowly unfolded the DNA report.

His hands were shaking so badly that the paper nearly slipped from his fingers.

The detective quietly asked,

"Would you like me to read it?"

Daniel nodded.

The detective scanned the first page.

Then froze.

He looked at Margaret.

Then at Daniel.

Finally, he spoke.

"The laboratory confirms with 99.99% certainty..."

He paused.

"...that Mr. Edward Harrington was not Daniel's biological father."

Gasps erupted across the room.

Someone dropped a glass.

It shattered against the marble floor.

Daniel stared blankly.

"What...?"

The detective continued.

"The report also identifies another individual."

Every eye turned toward the final line.

The biological father was...

Richard Collins.

The former Chief Financial Officer of Harrington Estates.

A man who had disappeared twenty-six years earlier after being accused of stealing millions from the company.

Daniel slowly looked toward his mother.

"Tell me they're wrong."

Margaret burst into tears.

"They're not."

The room exploded into chaos.

"You lied to everyone?"

"You let Grandpa believe Daniel was his grandson?"

"You framed Richard?"

Margaret collapsed into a chair.

"I had no choice!"

"No choice?" Daniel shouted.

"You destroyed a man's life!"

"He loved you!"

"He raised me!"

"And you let him die believing a lie!"

Margaret sobbed uncontrollably.

"I was afraid."

"I thought he'd leave me."

Daniel stepped backward.

Every memory of his childhood suddenly felt false.

Then he opened the handwritten letter again.

Near the end, his grandfather had written one final instruction.

"If Margaret's deception is ever uncovered, I ask only one thing..."

Daniel swallowed hard.

"...Protect Emily."

He looked at me.

His grandfather had known about me years before we ever met.

The old man had quietly investigated my family.

He had discovered that my father had sacrificed his ownership to save the company decades earlier.

He believed one day justice would return through us.

Daniel slowly walked across the room.

He took my hand.

Then removed his wedding ring.

Everyone gasped.

He looked directly at his mother.

"You spent your whole life teaching me that family was built on honor."

A long silence followed.

"You never realized..."

"...you were the only one without any."

He placed the ring into Margaret's trembling hand.

"I'm not leaving my wife."

"I'm leaving you."

Margaret screamed as Daniel and I walked toward the exit.

But just before we reached the door—

Victor's phone rang.

He answered.

His expression changed instantly.

He looked toward us.

"Mrs. Emily..."

"The bank has just reported something unusual."

He hesitated.

"The company's emergency trust fund..."

"...has disappeared."
