Chapter 5 - The Web of Betrayal"Elena Vance?" the lead social worker asked, her face stern and unyielding. She held a clipboard and a legal order stamped with a state seal. "I am Sarah Jenkins from Child Protective Services. We have received an emergency court order for the temporary removal of infants Leo and Maya Vance."

"No..." I gasped, struggling against the agony in my back, gripping the bed rails with white-knuckled desperation. "No! You can't do this! My babies are in the nursery right next door! They are safe!"
"Ma'am, keep your voice down," one of the police officers warned, stepping forward. "We have documentation indicating severe parental negligence, ongoing criminal investigations involving your immediate family, and imminent risk of corporate liquidation affecting your ability to provide."
"This is a setup!" Daniel shouted, stepping between the officers and my bed, holding up his legal credentials. "I am Daniel Cho, chief legal counsel for Mrs. Vance! This emergency order was executed fraudulently based on false evidence submitted by Marcus Vance!"
"The order is signed by Judge Harrison," Sarah Jenkins replied coldly. "Unless you have a stay of execution signed by a higher court judge right now, Mr. Cho, we are legally required to take the children into state custody immediately."
I looked at the clock on the wall. 1:15 a.m.
Judge Harrison... I knew that name. He was a long-time member of the country club where my parents spent their weekends. Arthur had bought Judge Harrison’s summer house in Nantucket three years ago for half its market value.
It was all connected. A deep, putrid web of corruption, bribery, and greed that had been woven around my life while I was busy working eighteen hours a day to build an empire.
"Clara!" I screamed toward the door. "Clara, don't let them near the nursery!"
Through the glass window, I saw two uniformed officers standing outside the pediatric ward. Clara was crying, arguing with them, but they pushed past her, entering the nursery where my tiny, innocent babies slept.
"Daniel..." I looked at my lawyer, tears streaming down my face, my pride completely shattered. "Don't let them take my babies. Please. I'll give up the company. I'll give up everything. Just save my children."
Daniel’s jaw tightened. He looked at his watch, then looked at me with an intense, burning determination.
"Elena," Daniel whispered, leaning down close to my ear so the officers couldn't hear. "Remember the secondary protocol Julian set up before he died? The one marked 'Doomsday'?"
My eyes widened. "The Doomsday Protocol?"
"Julian knew Judge Harrison was corrupt," Daniel whispered rapidly. "He knew your father was using Harrison to fix real estate cases. Julian hid a hard drive inside a safe deposit box at Federal Reserve Bank of New York. It contains wiretap recordings of Harrison, Arthur, and Marcus Vance planning the takeover of your estate."
"Why didn't you tell me this earlier?!" I choked out.
"Because the protocol could only be activated if your life or the children's custody was directly threatened by legal state authority," Daniel said. "It requires your biometric voice confirmation to unlock the cloud decryption key."
"Do it!" I cried. "Do it now!"
Daniel pulled out a secure, encrypted satellite phone from his coat inner pocket. He dialed a twelve-digit number and held the phone to my lips.
A cold, mechanical voice spoke through the speaker: “Biometric verification required. Identify primary asset holder.”
"Elena Vance," I said, my voice trembling but clear. "Authorization code: Alpha-Julian-Zero-Nine."
“Voice print matched. Decrypting Doomsday File 108. Transmitting to Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice, and State Judicial Conduct Commission... Transmission complete.”
The social worker, Sarah Jenkins, frowned, watching us suspiciously. "Mr. Cho, what are you doing? Move aside. Officers, secure the children."
The police officers stepped toward the nursery door.
Suddenly, every cell phone in the room buzzed simultaneously with a sharp, piercing emergency tone.
The lead officer pulled out his phone. His face drained of color.
Sarah Jenkins’s phone rang. She answered it, listening for three seconds before her eyes widened in absolute horror.

"What?" Sarah stammered into the phone. "Under federal investigation? Effective immediately?!"
HOOK: The lead officer's radio crackled to life with an urgent broadcast from dispatch: "All units, cancel the order on the Vance children. Judge Harrison has just been taken into custody by Federal Marshals."
