Chapter 6 - Strike BackThe tension in the ICU room shattered like glass.

The two police officers immediately stepped back from the nursery door, looking visibly unsettled. Sarah Jenkins slowly lowered her phone, her hands shaking so violently she dropped her clipboard.

"Mrs. Vance..." Sarah stuttered, her previous cold authority completely evaporating. "I... I apologize. The emergency custody order has been officially rescinded by the State Supreme Court. We are leaving immediately."

They scrambled out of the room like frightened mice.

Clara rushed back into my room, holding Leo and Maya in her arms, wrapping them in soft blankets. She brought them to my bed. I couldn't hold them properly because of my broken frame, but Clara gently rested their tiny heads against my chest. Hearing their warm, quiet breathing against my skin, smelling their sweet baby scent—it brought a surge of overwhelming strength back into my broken body.

"They're safe, Elena," Daniel said, a triumphant smile breaking across his tired face. "The FBI just raided Judge Harrison’s home. The wiretaps fully exposed his financial ties to Marcus Vance and your father. Every illegal ruling Harrison signed in the last five years is being overturned tonight."

"What about Marcus?" I asked, my voice hardening like tempered steel as I gently stroked Maya’s soft hair.

"The federal freeze hit his Panama accounts five minutes ago," Daniel replied, pulling up a live feed on his tablet. "Marcus’s corporate coup is dead in the water. Securities fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to murder, and federal judicial corruption. He’s looking at thirty years to life in a federal penitentiary."

"Not enough," I whispered.

Daniel paused. "What?"

I looked up at him, my eyes burning with a cold, relentless fire that terrified even my own lawyer.

"I don't just want Marcus in prison, Daniel," I said, each word laced with pure venom. "I want him completely erased. I want his family's logistics empire dismantled bit by bit. I want my father to watch from his jail cell as every single brick of his legacy is ground into dust. And I want Loretta to realize that she trades her luxury life for a orange jumpsuit."

Daniel swallowed hard, nodding slowly. "What are your orders, Chief Executive?"

"First," I said, "execute the immediate foreclosure on my father's estate. Evict Loretta tonight. Do not let her take a single designer bag, a single piece of jewelry, or even her clothes. Everything in that house was purchased with my corporate credit line. It all belongs to the holding company."

"Consider it done," Daniel said, his fingers flying across his screen. "The sheriff’s department is already en route to serve the physical removal order."

"Second," I continued, "buy out forty percent of Victor Vance’s distressed debt from the secondary market. We hit his logistics network with a hostile takeover before the market opens at 9:00 a.m. I want to own Marcus’s father by sunrise."

"And third?" Daniel asked.

"Call the local media outlets," I smiled, a dark, lethal expression. "I’m holding a live press conference from my ICU bed in thirty minutes."

Thirty minutes later, three national news camera crews were set up at the foot of my hospital bed.

I sat propped up against pillows, my bruised face un-rouged, my IV lines clearly visible, my tiny twins resting beside me. I looked straight into the camera lenses—straight into the eyes of millions of viewers across the nation.

"My name is Elena Vance," I began, my voice ringing out with immense power despite my physical injuries. "Eight hours ago, I survived an assassination attempt orchestrated by my own family and their corrupt business associates. They thought because I was broken, lying in a hospital bed, that I would be an easy target. They thought my love for my children was a weakness they could exploit."

I leaned closer to the primary camera.

"To my mother, Loretta, who is currently being removed from my property... to my father, Arthur, sitting in a remand cell... and to Marcus Vance, who thinks he can hide behind offshore accounts: You failed. I am coming for every single thing you own. And I will not stop until justice is served."

HOOK: As the live broadcast ended, Daniel’s phone buzzed with an urgent text message from Arthur’s court-appointed lawyer: "Arthur Vance is offering a full confession, but he says he has one final secret to trade—about Julian’s true cause of death."
