CHAPTER 4 — The Brother They Chose

Daniel walked out with one bag.

No shame.

No fear.

Just a cold smile.

“You always wanted to be the favorite,” he said to Emily. “Congratulations. Now you can pay for it.”

Emily stared at him.

For years, she had imagined this moment.

The golden child exposed.

The truth finally visible.

But it did not feel like victory.

It felt like standing in the ashes of a house that had been burning since childhood.

Their mother sobbed on the marble floor.

Their father looked twenty years older.

Daniel reached the door.

Then Emily said quietly,

“You forged Dad’s signature.”

Daniel froze.

The room went silent.

Emily lifted one document from the table.

“And Mom’s.”

Daniel turned slowly.

For the first time, his confidence cracked.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Emily stepped closer.

“I do.”

Her voice stayed calm.

“That’s why you didn’t run from debt.”

“You ran from prison.”

Daniel’s face darkened.

Dad whispered, “Daniel…”

But Daniel exploded.

“You made me this way!”

He pointed at their parents.

“You gave me everything, then acted shocked when I took more!”

Mom covered her mouth.

Emily’s eyes filled with tears.

Not from weakness.

From finally hearing the truth out loud.

Daniel had not been ruined by love.

He had weaponized it.

Then the doorbell rang again.

May you like

This time…

It was the police.
