Chapter 5 - The UnravelingSilence in the ballroom was absolute. You could hear the hum of the crystal chandeliers.

Every single head turned from the giant screen to Amanda.
Amanda was shaking so violently she dropped her silver evening purse. It hit the marble floor with a heavy, metallic clatter. The zipper popped open, and a massive, four-carat canary diamond ring rolled out, spinning in circles right to the center of the dance floor, flashing blinding prisms of light under the spotlights.
Eleanor stared at the ring on the floor, then at her niece, Amanda, and finally at her daughter, Chloe.
"Chloe..." Eleanor’s voice trembled. "You... you planned this?"
"Mom, no! It was her idea! She made me do it!" Chloe shrieked, pointing wildly at Amanda.
"You told me to do it because you wanted to ruin her reputation so Dominic would never look back!" Amanda sobbed hysterically, crumbling to her knees on the floor. "You said she was 'dead weight' and needed to be destroyed!"
Dominic stood frozen in place. He looked at the ring, he looked at the screen, and then slowly, agonizingly, he turned his head to look at me.
His eyes were wide with a terrifying realization. The woman he had treated like a doormat for three years—the quiet, modest wife he thought came from an impoverished background—was standing tall, her pale blue maternity dress torn at the shoulder, looking down at him not with sadness, but with absolute, glacial contempt.
"Vivienne..." Dominic whispered, taking a hesitant step forward, his voice cracking. "I... I didn't know. You have to believe me. Chloe didn't tell me about this part..."
"Shut up, Dominic," I said softly.
The two words hit him like a physical blow. He staggered back, breathless.
"You stayed silent while your mother ripped my clothes," I continued, stepping forward into the light. "You told me to let them search my things. You traded your self-respect—and your marriage—to be a lapdog for a family of sociopaths."
"Vivienne, please," Dominic begged, tears welling in his eyes. "We can fix this. We're having a baby. We're a family..."
Before he could finish his sentence, the heavy mahogany doors swung open once more.

A sharp, synchronized clicking of leather shoes echoed through the hall. Four more men in black suits entered, followed by a tall, silver-haired man in an impeccably tailored Italian suit. His eyes were cold, sharp, and blazing with absolute fury.
It was my father.
