Chapter 9 - The AftermathThree months later.

The sun was streaming warmly through the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows of my private suite at Sterling Manor, casting a golden glow across the hardwood nursery floor. In my arms rested a healthy, beautiful baby boy, his tiny fingers curled tightly around my thumb.

Life had changed completely.

The trial of Chloe and Amanda had wrapped up quickly. With airtight security footage, forensic financial audits, and unassailable legal representation, Chloe was currently facing felony charges for extortion, conspiracy, and filing a false police report. Her family’s dry-cleaning business had been liquidated within forty-eight hours of the wedding, and her parents had filed for bankruptcy, forced to sell their suburban home and move into a tiny, run-down apartment across town.

As for Dominic?

He had tried to contact me dozens of times through letters, emails, and frantic phone calls, begging for a second chance, claiming he had cut ties with his family. But his messages were intercepted by my father's legal team and forwarded straight to the divorce court. The annulment was finalized unconditionally, leaving Dominic with nothing—no wealth, no status, and no career prospects, as his former social circle completely blacklisted him for his cowardice.

He had wanted to keep the peace by letting everyone walk all over me. In the end, his desire for peace had cost him everything he ever had.

There was a soft knock on the open nursery door.

My father walked in, holding a small silver rattle, a gentle smile creaking across his distinguished face. He stopped at the edge of the crib, looking down at his grandson with undisguised adoration.

"How is my favorite little investor doing?" my father whispered, gently tickling the baby's tiny foot.

"He's sleeping like an angel, Dad," I replied, a deep, peaceful smile spreading across my face.

My father looked up from the crib, meeting my eyes with a look of fierce, protective pride. "You know, Vivienne... watching you handle that mess at the wedding... I've never been prouder of you. You didn't raise your voice once. You let them dig their own graves."

May you like

"Silence isn't always weakness, Dad," I said quietly, looking down at my son. "Sometimes, it's just giving people enough rope to hang themselves."

My father chuckled softly, wrapping a warm arm around my shoulders. "Well, your mother would have been so proud of you. And as for your new life... it’s just beginning."
