Chapter 6 - The Empire RevealedThe temperature in the room dropped ten degrees.

My father—Arthur Sterling—did not look like the humble, invisible relative Chloe and Eleanor had spent years mocking in their quiet conversations. He walked with the absolute authority of a man who controlled billions. Behind him, local police officers streamed into the ballroom, immediately securing the exits and placing Amanda in handcuffs.

"Dad," I said, letting out a breath I didn't realize I’d been holding.

My father rushed past Director Vance, closing the distance between us in seconds. His stern, terrifying expression instantly melted into overwhelming tenderness as he gently pulled my torn maternity dress together, wrapping his own heavy, expensive cashmere suit jacket around my shoulders.

"My baby," my father whispered, his voice thick with emotion as he kissed my forehead. "Are you alright? Did they hurt you?"

"I'm fine, Dad," I murmured, leaning into his warmth for a brief second before stepping back. "Just tired."

Across the room, Eleanor’s jaw dropped so low it looked like it might unhinge. She squinted at my father, trying desperately to place his face. Then, recognition hit her like a lightning bolt. Her eyes bulged.

Arthur Sterling.

The founder and majority owner of Sterling Global Holdings—the multi-billion-dollar conglomerate that owned not only this luxury hotel, but half the commercial real estate, shipping ports, and media networks in the country.

"A-Arthur Sterling?" Eleanor stammered, her voice turning into a high-pitched squeak. "You... you’re her father? But... but Chloe said she was a nobody! She said she came from the streets!"

My father slowly turned his head. The look he gave Eleanor could have frozen magma.

"My daughter chose to live a modest, quiet life because she wanted a husband who loved her for who she was, not what was in our bank accounts," my father’s voice boomed across the silent ballroom, dripping with lethal ice. "It appears your family made a catastrophic miscalculation."

Chloe was sobbing uncontrollably now, her wedding makeup running down her face in ugly black streaks. "No... no, this isn't real! This is a nightmare! Daddy, do something!" she screamed at her own father, who was standing paralyzed in the corner, shaking like a leaf.

"Your daughter," my father continued, staring directly at Chloe, "just attempted a public shaming, assault, and malicious framing of an eight-month pregnant woman. Director Vance, play the rest of the security footage for the police."
